Back east?

So I have kind of observed that most often than not more older vacuums or more saught after models are on the most eastern side of the u.s i.e: most the hoover convertibles constelations etc etc seem to be owned by people from ohio indiana and so on havint ran into much on this side of the state why do you think this is?

Higher population density perhaps? Utah is pretty sparse in most of the state. A lot of the time I forget Montana even exists. lol

This may have nothing to do with this but at one time some products were advertised with prices being "slightly higher" west of the Rockies.

Gotta remember, the western side of America used to be the middle of nowhere. It was all either mountains, farms, or dustbowls, hardly an environment that would have a dense population of vacuum cleaners from the earlier part of the 20th century. It's only very recently that populations in the western midwest have started getting bigger.

Yeah I know, 'Flyover' was the term politicians used. But it's not entirely accurate with places like St.Louis, Kansas City, Minneapolis/St.Paul, Phoenix etc. I grew up in St.Louis county and I assure you we had every thing anybody else did; Elux, Hoover, Rexair etc.


 


As a humorous aside....my mom grew up in Kansas City, MO and when I asked her once if she was from Kansas City, KS....she said, "Why, that was Injun country!" If you've ever been there, the two sides are separated by Stateline Rd....that's it.

Well, I didn't mean any offense. It's just math. Population in the cities is there, sure, but population density per amount of landmass was tiny compared to the eastern states. It follows that vacuum population would be directly related.

That's my hypothesis, anyway.

is where Hoovers were made.
Remember the door to door vacuum cleaner salesman, like when Moms mostly stayed home?
Whenever a new housing plan went in, they were in there along with the milk man, Fuller brush, Kirby, Rexair (Rainbow), Filter Queen, etc.
California was really on the baby boom grow.
Compacts and Revelations made in El Segundo also may have been sold door to door.
Then, from the 80's, Electrolux USA relocated from Old Grennwich Connecticut to Dallas Texas.
Of course, if Mom ventured into a "Good Housekeeping" shop, major appliance store, or other vac. shop, there were Hoovers, Air Way's from Toledo, along with their second brand similar in shape to a Filter Queen, Royals, and Eureka's from Illinois of course. Sears was also becoming the largest retailer.

I’ve had plenty of good luck out here in the middle of the country, if you can find a Lady Kenmore Kenkart, you can probably find just about anything...

No offense taken. It's a valid point about population density. It's only in the latter part of my life that I've lived so far away from big cities. The assumed idyllic life of a small town is not so idyllic. Crime and murder rates are down for sure, but health services are ghastly, even criminal. It's ludicrous to think your best doctors are going to settle in a small town. And these little towns are often drowning in drug abuse.


 


I used to mentor two boys here until they aged out. One of the things I did with them was go to garage sales. I got a pretty good handle on what people bought here in the 60's/70's/80's and what was available to them in those days. This was a bad area for Electrolux....families that really wanted one went to Spokane etc. Yet 100 miles from here in Lewiston, ID (similar sized town) they had a Elux dealer that did very well and my mother-in-law was a loyal customer to the bitter end.

I really one is in a small town not extremely far from a bigger city, then you get both. I just don't care for all the people crammed in one place, I need space.
