AVF-26 g.e. vacuum

i'm looking for the hose attachment for this model or info. pertaining to it. the only ones i have seen on ebay have only come as an upright with no attachments. did it even have a hose for it when it came out? if someone has knowledge of this let me know. thank you.

Great little old cleaner, But didn't rank well in consumer reports when this cleaner came out. I never see the attachments, perhaps the original owners liked having a GE canister thrown in with the deal?

What didn't Consumer's like about this vac? I grew up with a similar version, and it did have mucho problems. The attachments fit on the front and you must remove the belt each time.They were friction fit,and always came apart when in use. First the hose would pull off the adapter, then the hose would fall off the wand. The tools would fall off in use too. Had pretty good suction though. The bag was a beast to empty took both of parents to remove it and get it back on, outdoors, of course. The handle would come loose when cleaning and pull off of the head. The bag too would fly off every now and thus spewing dirt everywhere.


It was in the shop a lot. Finally in the 70's it was put to rest and replaced by a Hoover Convertible.

Consumer Reports,July 1951,

The motors kept burning out on them during testing, Quoted, "Short-Lived Motors". I found out they were refering to the model AVE-807, A few years later than the period of this cleaner. My bad! Tom Gasko at the Vacuum cleaner museum in St.James, Missouri (That's the man who owns it, right?) has Consumer Reports issues of the time, I'm sure he can fill us in as to how this cleaner fared!

thank you for the input, i use it weekly without any issues & love it.i've had none of the problems mentioned so i guess it will stay as is.since it made it this many years & still works great, consumer reports seem to be a little iffy anyway & does not seem apply to this vac. it will be sad when it does conk out & go to vac heaven.

so how do you date these? and any other info or anything on these? I just got one today from a guy I used to work with, he was helping an older couple clean out their garage and came across this one and! also has all the attachments and box they came in, as well as an extra brushroll, feels stiffer than the one that's currently installed, has an f&g bag conversion on it, the original bag prolly perished long long ago

Im not positive but I'm pretty sure the premier duplex preceded this model. The reason I say 1950s is the pics on attachment case. The looks 1945-1950.

Sometimes printed materials (such as the instructions on the box) have a printing date in the fine print. It's a stretch, but worth a look. Also, addresses and phone numbers can be a giveaway, too. I'm sure this easily predates zip codes (1963), though. Patent dates can at least give you a minimum year.

The pre-war model is dark brown with light brown accents.

More vacuum land picture glitches. It turns every picture to the side. The postwar model was light brown with dark brown accents. We made this one into a lamp.

I like the lamp it's a bright idea. There is a kenmore very similar to this. I want to say candy apple red. Two lines of vacuum of kenmore before this was the bug eye vacuum.

so from what it looks like everyone saying, its a late 40s (possibly 1947 which is what ill say when i tell people about it hahaha) def post war because after I cleaned it up a bit its got the light brown body and dark brown headlight hood. and yes i had looked at the instruction sticker before, trying to maybe date something but nothing obvious so no luck
also! it has a spare belt, and its like a dual layered belt, looks like a rubber band kind of rubber on the inside then the outer just looks like a reg vacuum belt anyone ever seen this kind before? i never have and was wondering if anyone knows a modern equivalent?

The belt for a eureka/sanitaire belt.

Use the belt from an old Royal. You can still get that belt. Anything else will put too much pressure on the front ball bearing.
