Jack,

You now have an upright that all the others will have to try and live up to.

Use your Hoover Freedom Airvolution followed by the Miele and see just how much better the Miele is in every way.

I trust a video will follow soon!

Nice!

Jack,

You'll love it more and more each time you use it. It's a tad heavy, but it's elligance makes up for it. I can't wait to get some more of the new attachments for it that Miele released. At a million US dollars an attachment, I'll have to buy them a few at a time :)

Best,
Andrew

Andrew,

I bought the Tango which is "Metallic Titan Red", so it's the same as Jacks'. Different names on them though!

Great Choice

I have a Bolero (black) and I think this is the most innovation that vacuums have seen in 50 years. The design is almost flawless. My only gripe is that the nob on the hepa filter screen sticks up and is somewhat sharp causing scratches and nicks on chairs and other low to the floor wood furniture. I also have a difficult time getting the dusting brush on and off of the extension wand (not the main handle but the metal wand). I was used to a rotating upolstry tool for pet hair and plan to buy one for this, but the upolstry tool that comes with it is surprisingly effective.

beautiful machines....to all that own them. you can see the solid build and quality.would love to have some at the shop..but our area wouldnt embrace it..
nice vid....love the way it sounds like a jet....so what the agressiveness like on the roller...what are the motor specs for those .

Roger - the Freedom will always have a special place in my collection, because it was a gift to me from the company. But you're right, the S7 is better in every way (which is reflected in the price, of course!!).

Andrew - I seem to recall a certain Nebraskan who loved his S7 Swing so much, he bought special microfibre cloths to clean the paintwork with...can you think who that might be? Because I wanted to thank him - his enthusiasm for his S7 inspired me to buy mine, and I'm so glad I did :)

Alex - believe the hype, it's worth every penny! You won't regret your purchase. Only difference between your Tango and my AutoCare, aside from the name, and the name of the colour (here it's called Garnet Red Metallic!), is the wattage - the 240v version is rated at 1800w.

Chris - I personally don't feel it's the most innovative cleaner from the last 50 years, since it doesn't really offer any entirely new technology. It's a steerable, bagged, upright vacuum cleaner. The swivel neck is a unique design, but the steerable category isn't a modern invention - Model 0 had rear swivel-castors! The floating brush is similar to the design Vorwerk have been using for 20 years, but with springs added to keep it in contact with the floor. The headlight, auto power, stair-cleaning hose...they've been done many times.

I find the S7 so important because it combines all the right features with legendary Miele quality. It's all brought together in a near perfectly-designed package, which makes a cleaner that's hard to beat. As Roger said, it's a cleaner other vacuums should aspire to be!

Ok, Ok

You're right Jack, I get a little carried away sometimes. I guess it is a great combination of many recent ammenities with, as you said, the esteemed Miele quality. And they are ammenities that the US Hoover and Kirby that I am most familiar with have not incorporated to date.

Jack,

Your commentary was great. The pictures - stunning - so crisp and well choreographed. You have missed your calling!

it is a thing of great beauty, love the swivel wheels on the front of the vac. awesome

I always forget about the difference between the US and UK Miele motors!

Also, I just noticed I said "I'll get to pick both of my Mieles", I meant to say "pick up" :). A little delay happened so I'm picking them up on the 25th instead, only one day longer. ;)

UK, Canadian and USA Miele same canister and upright and the S7 models all have different model names geared for the country of sale. May be the same in each country they sell in?

For instance, the Canadian S5 canisters are called Janus, Venus, Luna and Jupiter while I think the USA S5's are named after Gods.

I like the S7 very much although it is top heavy in use and tends to drop to the ground without a firm grip as I recall. Great fun and almost effortless to steer around. But I'll have to wait for a used one. At CN$499 for the bol white one they are just too dear. The only brand new vacuums I have bought were the two Sears Premalite Bagless uprights...and that's only because I got them for $25 each at the Sears under the table clearance store here.

Canadian S5 shake-up...

Janus and Luna have been discontinued. Venus has lost its garnet red metallic colour (now "blackberry red"), and adds a +/- speed control to take over the Luna's spot.

The replacement for the original Venus is the Flora which is bright orange and comes with the SEB217 included.

If you have a Costco nearby, you can get a Miele Mistral S7 for $459.99 including two packages of bags!

'It shows you the dirt you never knew you had!'

AND 'It beats as it sweeps as it cleans!!'

Looks like a beautiful machine....

I love the sleek look in the same way I love the design of the Electrolux Oxygen Three upright. A real aerodynamic response to the gawd-awful mess of tubes and tanks and clips and "hard-to-clean" nooks and crannies of all the bulky cumbersome "hardware store on wheels" being sold by all the other companies, including my beloved Eureka. This is what Gehry's Bilbao Museum is to the Pompidou Centre in Paris!

Would Miele listen to us vac-fans if we told them they just need to get rid of that furniture-killing filter cover handle? It's amazing that they did not think about how to resolve that unfortunate design flaw. It would be the simplest thing to change to make the hood perfect!
