I heard through my mom last week that my Aunt Ruth was having some vacuum woes, so Michael and I went over the weekend to see her, and assess the damage.
First the vacuum, a 1978 or so Eureka that was won as a prize(she no longer remembers for what)
Aunt Ruth has ALWAYS been a canister person, and I can still remember her getting a brand new Electrolux 1205 in 1973. So the Eureka in the early years of its life saw little use, and was regarded as a 2nd vacuum.
Aunt Ruth is now 82, She still has the Lux 1205(its pristine too)but the Eureka is seeing more use as the Lux is "too heavy to lug around all the time"
Here is a pic of the Eureka, model 2210A, 3.3 amps
Yes its a blender motor and not the older style Sanitaire motor.

underside

with the original Vibra Groomer I.
I replaced the brushes about 10 years ago, the orginals were somewhat worn, but not bad.
I was surprised at how spotless this was underneath!

the brokeb part

the bag collar...These broke on Eurekas like crazy!
It toook Aunt Ruth 30 years to break this one!

All cleaned and shiny...

with its new bag installed, I think the new bag looks better than the original.
Also replaced was the upper cord hook.

This runs flawlessly!!!

That is in beautiful condition, I picked one up just like it along the curb in a tralier parka few years ago, it was well worn but i put a new cord on it and used it for a while until it quit working. I thought that the hood was an unusual shape compared to all the other eureka uprights.

Jeff...

That machine is beautiful. I have never seen that type of hood without a headlight. I like the brushroll as they rival Hoover in terms of cleaning. Your aunt certainly took very good care of this machine and probably will continue to do so. I can imagine that it would be easy and lightweight to use around the house. I just do not see many of these machines in my neck of the woods. Thanks for sharing the pics!

Jeff,

What a wonderful machine. I have never seen that model before either, it really looks sharp..not cheap.

I have never seen or heard of the bag collars breaking like that before. Eureka always had a better bag system. The F&G bag had the Hoover C bag beat by a long shot.

Eureka made wonderful machines.

Riccar/Simplicity has a brushroll that is darn close, if not the same, as the Eureka brush roll. It is found only on TOL machines.

Oh my....

The hood is like a root beer brown??? I thought that Continental Styling Eureka upright series was just a dark metallic green. I believe that the model without the headlight was called the "Sport" in that series as well.

See we all learn something every day.

Good to see that it had a #1 doctor to fix it up.

It was a fun time going to see Aunt Ruth.....Her and Jeff's mom are a HOOT together!!!!

Chad.....i was thinking the same thing.......it reminds me of rootbeet!!!

Nice Eureka, Jeff!

I don't believe I've ever seen that model before, or any Eureka in that color. And yes, that new bag looks great on it!
Looking forward to seeing you and Michael again at the Convention.
The other Jeff!

is it that rare?

I'm not certain of the age of this machine, but I know it was after the green hood models, which were 1976.

These brown models all had the 1400 series blender motor, that I do know. I had one from the trash maybe 20 years ago, same colors and styling as Aunt Ruth's, only this one had the "rugulator" height adjustment, a headlight, and a handle switch.
Aunt Ruth's is most likely the base model of the series.

Now I wish I'd kept the one I found in the trash!!!

Hey the next time you are there can you take a picture of her Lux 1205? I'm sure it's all original and from what it sounds like it is in great shape.

Lux 1205

Logan,
Next time I see her I will get a pic. I did see it this past weekend, in her kitchen closet. It was clean and shiny, and looked like new to me.
All thats been replaced on it is the hose, which leaked badly. I have the original here...

These brown models all had the 1400 series blender motor,

ive been wondering about this ever since you started the thread, Jeff. The green models had the heavy duty motor. And ive never seen a Eureka with a VGI that didnt have a heavy duty motor.

Good looking machine. And its true about those bag couplings. Many thrift shop Eurekas of this style (that ive seen) have had this damage. The older (70s) machines.

Yes

David I wish the cleaner were still here, I delivered it over to my parents tonight, they will take it back to Aunt Ruth when the go to visit her...she lives in Princeton Illinois, about 125 miles from me here in Roselle.
My point is you'll notice from the pictures I did post that there are no vents in the top of the hood, a characteristic of the blender motor machines. Instead the vents are further down at the back of the hood, kind of inbetween where the switch and the cord enter the hood, on either side of the handle.
It fooled me at first, until I heard the cleaner run!
