If you were recently at the North of Mt. Clemens Habitat for Humanity ReStore and bought a GE Swivel Top form the Early '60s (turquoise) without the attachments I found them.

This ReStore Location has been known to separate items and sell them separately to get more money. They really are thieves.

They said specifically that no one dropped off only the hose and rug and floor nozzles therefore there must have been a vacuum with them. Two wands are also present.

If you know a collector in the Detroit area that is not on VL.org please tell them so I may be able to transfer these items to their rightful owner. Thank You.

And Another

Sorry for posting pictures in such a manor, but Windows 98 Second Edition decided to lock up upon selecting preview when using the new up-loader. Usually it's better behaved. ;)

With all due respect, how in the world are they thieves? They simply resell whatever is donated to support their mission. there is no guarantee that there even was a vacuum donated with the attachments. It's a charity not a vacuum cleaner store.

I'd be rather surprised if preservation of vintage vacuum cleaners with their attachments was part of the Habitat for Humanity's mission.

Just be glad that your thrift store has some interesting items.

Sorry to sound condescending about Habitat, I do agree with their cause, but this particular store has been known to separate items that clearly go together as well as marking up old broken items to full retail prices. To clarify they put vacuums in one spot and the attachments in another. Having watched this store over the past three years since they moved location, they went from being a store with good deals to, for example, trying to sell a 30 year old electric lawn mower with a broken handle for $50.

Also consider that often the people who regularly shop at thrift stores are down on their luck as well.

Sorry, I didn't mean to start a debate on Habitat for Humanity here. Just having seen the downward trend on Macomb area thrift stores bothers me.

I understand what you're saying I don't think of it as thievery. The items are donated, they own them and can sell them however they think will bring in the most revenue. There's nothing underhanded about that; they're just living up to their mission to support whatever charitable organization they're affiliated with. Heck, I used to work at a chain discount retail store that did the same thing. We'd unbox sets of dishes and price the pieces separately.

One of the thrift stores around here routinely sells accessory kits for vacuum cleaners separate from the machines they come in with. Several of them will also do things like break up bookshelf stereo systems, selling the speakers separately from the stereo, sometimes even selling the speakers individually.

I recently bought a CD tower at a thrift shop a few months ago that was in two halves. They wanted $3.99--FOR EACH HALF!!! I assembled it at the checkout to prove to the cashier that it was indeed one item. She didn't want to see it my way but the manager agreed with me and instructed her to ring it up as one item for $3.99.

I bought a nice Sunbeam Mixmaster Vista mixer at the same store a few years ago. They had taped the beaters and dough hooks to the mixer; but oddly enough, they had sold the bowls separately and they had gone out the door before I snagged the mixer itself.

GE Rug Nozzle

I just duct taped the wand set to my Fairfax so I could try what looked to be an interesting rug nozzle design and I am amazed at how well it works. Tacony needs to buy the patents for it off of GE for use in a PN free canister.

It was just as effective on pet hair as the Fairfax's rebadged roto-matic.

The broken handle on that electric mower might just need $2 of nuts and a bolt from Home Depot too?? Electric mowers were good and still vintage, I'll bet there are some of that same condition on eBay for $100! --Especially some of the old Sunbeam made ones, they were quite popular and Sunbeam no longer makes electric mowers!

A store can always go down in price over time but they can't go up in price over time. If someone decides to buy that mower for $50, that's his/ her choice.

The rule of Supply & Demand shall live on. There is no absolute guarantee price of what to mark something at, it all depends on what it is worth to someone.

Who would've guessed that a Hoover portable canister from the 1960's in filthy condition would sell for over $700 but it just happened only a few weeks ago on eBay!! I think the seller originally had the unit priced at around $10 and bids took it over $700!

It was a Penncrest branded Hoover straight suction cleaner!!

Opening bid was $19.99 with $15.00 shipping.

FINAL WINNING BID: $795.92

Unfreaking believable if you ask me!!!!

It's not filthy but it's not completely clean either. I look at the hose and I think that looks nasty!!!

One of the attachments is an upholstery nozzle for a Eureka Rotomatic canister vac!!! LOL
