Air-Way offered this feature in 1920 on the first upright. That may be what the article's talking about. Electrolux also claimed it could be used as a hair dryer starting with the model X1. Eureka had a special hair drying tool on an early hand vac, in fact, that's one of the pictures used in the Vacuum of the day feature here.

Any vacuum with a hose would do if you hook the hose to the blower end and set it near an oven door. Actually, that's not nessecery, as the motor itself creates warm air, but Air-Way didn't think of that in 1920 when they put out the instruction book.

I use my Lux tank in blower mode as a hair dryer for my dog. It works great. The dog hasn't once complained. She tolerates it better than the hot air from a hair dryer.

You could buy a hair dryer attachment for the Canadian Electrolux 86 and 88 (Shown in picture with original box)

And Filter Queen had a hair drying attachment. It was a shower cap like thing, with a long tube for warm exhaust air. F.Q. also had a clothes drying thingy for socks and undies.

The Eureka Junior hand-vac from the early 1930s had an amazing hair-dryer attachment. It contained a heater element! It connected to the blower of the machine and there was a short plug that connected to the side of the motor.

Used to have a hairdryer attachment.  If I remember so did Fairfax, and Filterqueen.
