I finally got around to lugging a tote and a few boxes of parts and stuff home from my dad's today, and I forgot that I had this machine! It's in great shape and still runs really well, sounds like it could use a new brush roll though. Somebody mentioned that the Pro Series badged DDs are uncommon?

Also, is there a correct way to oil the brush roll end caps? I tried to but didn't quite get it. Thanks y'all!

Deleted my post.
I'm pretty sure the DD pro was like sanitaires blue line. The red sanitaire was commercial and the blue was consumer. Royal would be commercial and DD pro was TOL DD.
I've only seen one 2 speed DD and 1 2 speed royal pro handvacs. The DD was yellow and black checkered bag just like your machine. My royal pro was a 97 7 amp 2 speed.
The DD 2 speeds are rare.

Oh sweet!

I had a really pretty teal 2 speed years ago too, not sure what happened to it 😂
I'm glad I still had a couple of G bags, after a wipe down the Pro Series runs just fine! Has a lot more power than the 103s and inhales cat hair. I'm still very partial to my Panasonic Jet Flo hand vac but the disposable bag is definitely convenient. I'll hang onto it awhile I think

Jake,

The 523 Plus and the 533 Pro Series were the original generation two-speed Dirt Devil hand vacuums. Both were originally introduced in 1986.

The 523, in red, was the mainstream model as it was sold in various department stores while the 533, in blue, was part of the Pro Series line that was only sold at Royal vacuum dealerships (including Stark's over here in Portland, OR).

The second speed on these two machines was very useful with the attachments.

Your machine in the picture above you included: is that the 533?

Ben-

It is indeed a 533. Picked up a newer brush roll today and put the old one into my 103 with a seized brush. Runs great now! It's very noisy on high speed so I'm wondering if the fan isn't chipped, maybe these models were just a bit more "opinionated" with the larger motor. Almost reminiscent of an Ultra. It performs perfectly well for all my above floor cleaning needs on low speed though 😎
