APEX 58

Hello Al, This looks identical to a model made by GEC in Witton, BIRMINGHAM. I have seen and examined the GEC version at the science museum store at Hayes Middlesex during the last 1980's. This model dates from the late 1920s/ early 30s and was the senior size of machine with three sets of ball race bearings. The clever feature of this model; apex or gec was that the tools could be fitted by flipping the cover (behind the name plate/beltb chamber cover) around with no need to disengage the drive belt. The brush roller was simply a longer version of the type fitted to the gec models DM180 (junior model) and the streamlined DM380 which I think appeared post war?

Regards, Walter.

Those were made here too, under the names Apex and Majestic. High end ones had the tool port and low end ones did not. Some of the later ones had a large click switch, such as on a Witch Way. The badges here tended to be painted and polished brass, that engraved badge looks awesome!
