A friend was wondering about this cleaner, and I'm not sure where my handy dandy guide is right at the moment. Anyone recognize it? I'm thinking it's more "latter day" as far as Convertibles go, and I actually think there were more of this ilk in Europe than in the US, though I could always be wrong. Thanks!

JCP

I bought my mom one of the red ones from JC Penney only it's bag was the same color of the machine, and the bag had the square-ish box top bag. On the front of the base it's badge was JC Penney with made by Hoover underneath it. I always thought it was odd that the box top bag didn't appear on the Hoover models, made for a very sharp look, and it took the then new A top-fill bags. It was two-speed, with the higher speed activated when the handle was in the upright position.

U 4147

Hello,
in Europe we had onle Mod. U 4147/4197 in thet color scheme and with Height indicator window, it was made in the USA while all the previous "Senior"vacuum cleaners were made in Great Britain, and we never had that type of handle and handle grip with the switch on it.

That's about the date I was thinking too, Swingette. I think with regard to the tools, it could be he is referring to the Eureka style "front conversion", which was a departure for Hoover as compared to previous convertibles.

Correction: the main casting changed to ABS, not Lexan.

I refer to this style as the "Ranger"-style. I believe these were common in the UK as Ranger and has this style motor cover.
