I have a Dirt Devil Broomvac model 712 that I am looking to sell. I have been unable to get the belt to stay on, despite trying to follow the instructions on the vacuum of how to twist the belt properly. If anyone is interested, please reply. I got it as a collectible, but no longer am interested in this model. Please make me an offer. Shipping shouldn't be too much, but I would need to get an exact figure to know exactly how much. I am attaching some pictures of the vacuum below. Base has a pretty good amount of scratches and scuffs, but the Royal bag looks almost, if not exactly, brand new.

They were sold as the "Broomy" over here in the UK, to go with the "Handy", gotta love marketing departments' wit.... :&#92

Ha ha yeah you do David!

I just had a thought, shouldn't the motor pulley have a lip on the end to stop the belt coming off ? If it should and it isn't present, then that could be your problem.

If I'm wrong with that, have you tried using a tighter belt, like the ones from the really old HOOVER Juniors ?

Oh, and thanks for letting me know that they sell them here and under which name. I'll be searching from now on to get me one!

Kirby...

Make me an offer.

Jmurry01, I don't think so, although I thought so at first. And the belt that I am using is a brand new Dirt Devil Broomvac belt. It fits nice and tight, but it does say on the vacuum to twist it, and shows a picture of how to twist the belt, or it will spin right off the pulley.

Try twisting the belt the other way... That's the irony of these little buggers. Twist it the wrong way, and the belt pops off. Twist it the right way, and the angle of the shaft keeps it where it needs to be.

Give that a try before writing off this little guy. We picked up one on eBay for about $24 after shipping. It's a shame it was delivered with a cracked housing - where the handle is - so I had to alter it to keep it together. The handle no longer stays up on its own.

I dated someone who had one of these.

Also in the house were a Miele, Eureka upright, and this. No HOOVERS anywhere. I should have known THEN that I was in trouble. And, I had to run ALL of them. "Bless me Father, for I have sinned". The maching, as well as the owner were "underwhelming" to me. But, that's just me.
