Anyone have any hints and tips on restoring cardboard boxes?

Hi all.
Ive just received a 1950s Hoover still in its original cardboard box! Its dirty and a bit frayed but is complete and has great 1950s Hoover lettering on all sides, even the bottom!
wondering if anyone knows how to restore original boxes to their former glory and even if it's possible.

I don't know how to undo the damage--but paper,cloth,and plastic goods should be stored under "human" climate conditions for longest life.Do not store such items in an attic or basement.For large paper documents-such as posters,maps,drawings and such NEVER store them folded-the best is to store them flat in a large map cabinet-or rolled.Creases from folding weakens the paper-and it cracks or breaks at the folds.Movie poster restorers use a specialized washing process to restore posters(poster is washed and dried in a special container where it can lay flat)-but don't think it would work for boxes.I try to do these things for my movie poster and map collections.-same with movie banners-never fold them.
