I've been running Windows 8 in a VM since the Developer Preview came out and bought it proper when it went GA last October. It's been OK, and actually runs pretty well. Yesterday when 8.1 was released, I installed it, and it seems to be pretty slow compared to regular Windows 8. Today I noticed that there are already security patches and OS updates. Anybody else running it? If so, how do you like it? Also, OS X Mavericks should be available real soon. Looking forward to that.

WIn 8.1 was released in 2013 ! Macroshaft hasn't offered support for WIN 8 since 2021-ish or thereabouts. They are already stopping support for WIN 10, forcing everyone to switch to WIN 11.

My advice is to ditch Macroshaft altogether and run Linux Mint with the Cinnamon GUI. It looks a lot like Apple probably because Mac OS is based on Linux as well. Then you can use browsers like Brave, which has a built in ad blocker and search engines like Duck-Duck-Go which has a built in VPN. There is a free equivalent to Office ( Orifice ) called Libre Office. It was developed by a bunch of former Macroshaft engineers who went out on their own and offer what is essentially MS Office as open source freeware. The best part is that all of this is free and updated for free.
