I've been running Windows 8 in a VM since the Developer Preview came out and bought it proper when it went GA last October.  It's been OK, and actually runs pretty well.  Yesterday when 8.1 was released, I installed it, and it seems to be pretty slow compared to regular Windows 8.  Today I noticed that there are already security patches and OS updates.  Anybody else running it?  If so, how do you like it?  Also, OS X Mavericks should be available real soon.  Looking forward to that.

I have windows 8 on my automaticwasher/vacuumland programming laptop. I'm a bit leary of installing any major upgrades of any Windows or Apple operating system products and I've seen both have major issues. I will be interested in hearing what the tech blogs have to say about Windows 8.1, I'm fine without the old start menu, but it would be nice keep up with technology.

Well, it still doesn't

have the old Start Menu.  True, when you go to Desktop Mode, it has a Windows logo where the start button used to be, and when you click it, instead of the Start Menu, it takes you back to the tiled Start Screen.  After a few rounds of updates, it seems to be running better.  Do you use Apple computers too?

I haven't even installed regular Windows 8. Nor do I plan to. My two desktop computers are running Windows 7 and Windows XP (shame it's going to be unsupported soon), and my laptop is also XP.

Do you use Apple computers too?

Yes I sure do, but only to test to see how Vacuumland and AW looks and performs on the Mac, iPad and iPhone. Hardcore website coding in perl programming is best done with IDEs on a windows computer.

Cool.

I use both too, but I prefer the Mac.  I pretty much only use Windows for work related things only, because they refuse to support anything other than Windows and Internet Explorer.  However,  I don't own any dedicated Windows hardware.  I run it either in a Boot Camp partition or in a VM under VMware on a Mac Pro.  Best of both worlds on one machine.

YES

.I've only had short experience with 8 since I've only had 8 for a few weeks........After the learning curve (which wasn't that bad) I really like it and it runs so smoothly. I had a few problems at first that were driver related but corrected that. I updated from the windows store and the download took a LONG time........It installed without issues other than the microsoft account you have to create and I don't even want a microsoft account..... it feels really fast to me, about the same as 8. I have classic shell so it feel like windows 7.....but I do go to the metro screen and look around the apps which is kind of cool.......

Windows 8

I run Windows 8 developer preview for a couple of months when it was first released and while I liked it to an extent, in the banking world that I work in, there's a lot of specialized software that doesn't always "play nice" with new operating systems and I found that to be the case with 8. Once they get a few service packs released and have most of the bugs worked out, I may consider a Windows 8 tablet or other touch screen device as that's how I feel this operating system was geared towards.

For all of you who dont know this you do know you can downgrade to windows 7. you just have to burn a disk with windows 7 on it put in your disk drive and boot of the disk. However the copy of windows is not geuine so never run the thing that will come up asking if it can run a series of tests to see if your copy of windows is guinie as it isnt. its not illegal, Microsoft just dosent like it. or just downlod a virtural machine, I personally like using virutural box as then i can run diffrint opperating systeums for videos for youtube. If you have any questions feel free to contact me. If it askas for a prodect key let me know I can get you one.
Kind regards

I bought back in May a HP Desktop Bundle from Sam's Club, 27 inch HD Monitor, 12GB of RAM, 2TB Hard Drive, etc... for $888, and while I usually custom order my machines & was planning on having Windows 7 installed at the factory, this was just too good a deal to pass up. It came with Windows 8 and once I got used to the way it worked it isn't all bad. I installed the 8.1 update and everything is running just as snappy as before.

One of the really neat things about Windows 8 is once you learn how to use it, it applies to the Surface family of tablets, and the Windows Phone devices. I have a Surface RT and could not be happier with it, and the HTC Windows Phone 8X, so everything just goes together naturally.

Windows 8 is very much a radical change from previous versions of Windows, but once you get the hang of it, it's not that bad at all. One of the best things about the 8.1 upgrade is that I now have a really good, fully functional Metro-style Mail App, and Outlook 2013 on my Surface. On the desktop I am using Office Professional 2010.
