I've heard about these brushrolls several times before. I do know that these perform well and are used in Kirby Vacuums. My Hoover Tempo has a CWP Brushroll while my Empower still has it's original nylon brushroll with it's lime green bristles.

I installed a CWP Brushroll into my Hoover Elite 350 to replace the single row brush it had. That alone improved that vacuum and they are really well built. I have one on the way for my 1999 SP Windtunnel to replace its original brushroll.

I remember,

John. That trip to the CWP factory was so interesting in how they started with a plain wooden roll, cut it to size, drilled the holes to inset the brushes, put in the brushes, and there it was--a finished brush roll. Also on that tour, we saw piles of material that would become the outer bag for the Kirby Sentria II. We could watch seamstresses cut and sew that material to produce the bag.

Wasn't that amazing?

And, they gave us each a
scrub brush on a handle, made out of scraps. I still have mine... on display with my other vacuum 'stuff'. And, watching that fabric speed into that machine and be turned out as a Kirby bag.. fun! They couldn't have been nicer.
I still doubt I'll use my brush roll. But..........................

Cwp

Is owned by Scott and fetzer. Its an entirely seperate entity. Saying it's a Kirby company is pretty vague. Saying it's a brush roll company who makes brush rolls for various brands is more appropriate.

A little Fun fact...........

The Kirby company is a Subsidiary of Berkshire Hathaway, which is owned by Warren Buffett. CWP is Part of Scott& Fetzer industries as another one of the many brands that they offer.

I was

Going to mention the Warren buffet connection but I couldn't find any credeibile backing.

Douglas Products is also part of the conglomerate. They made the hand held vacs as well as the electric vacuette hand held vac, for Kirby as well as under their own brand name Douglas. When the VCCC went to the Kirby Company many years ago, they were very nice to us and even gave us a rug we used for the Cleaning Contest. I enjoyed going to the Kirby Company (as well as Filter Queen) with the club. Jimmy Martin won a free Defender from Filter Queen the day we toured their plant.

I have not kept up on them but

Kirby used to own every aspect of their assembly. They sourced the bags, belts, brush rolls, motors from their subsidiary companies. If I am not mistaking, and someone can correct me if I am. I thought they also did their own castings for the aluminum parts. as well as the plastics for handles, attachments etc.

They also owned the Quik-cut knife division that we purchased the "door prizes" from when we went on demos.

This may have changed over the years, I know Quik-cut is now Mirical Blade but I believe SF still owns them.

I remember those knives.

Yes, a few short years ago, the club went to Kirby. First, we were ;uninvited'. We had to have a long talk with them, and THEN they re-invited us, under careful scrutiny. It turned out that they were notified and advised to NOT allow us there by someone who tried to thwart the visit. (no more details here) That got remedied, and we were welcomed all over. We were even treat tho luncheon at their Kirby Kafe. On to Filter Queen later in the day. Again, most gracious to us. We all had a great time. The VCCC no longer uses any kind of special carpet for the cleaning contest, but uses the ones in hotels. We leave them cleaner than they were before we got there. It's unfortunate

That there are hateful, spiteful, petty people in this world. I am sure you were treated well. Kirby is a very friendly company. Some of their distributors, and some of their dealers arent, but Kirby co. Is a very kind company, and they do treat their employees well. I have heard many of their employees are heritage employees where several generations of a family all work there.

Thanks

for providing the links. I was on a 15 minute break and did a quick Google search. I didn't have the time to go that in depth.
