Anybody know anything about the Eureka Altima?

I found one at the Sally Anne yesterday for 15.00 and picked it up. It appears to be in used, but really good condition. All parts are present, but upon inspection, the hepa exhaust filter is missing. Anyone know what filter I need to buy to replace it? Even the belt seems to be good. So far the only thing bugging me about it is the clerk at the store gave me the senior discount, and I'm only 48! The beard goes ... On the plus side, it was 12.00 out the door.

if you were to go to walmart they usually have a thing by the filters and bags with numbers on them and the brand and type of machine... hope this helps

p.s. in the upper part of the dirt chamber there is a little yellow lint screen that may need to be cleaned out once in a while

I tried K-Mart with no luck (Surprise surprise). I'll give Wal-Mart a shot. Believe it or not, my town does not have ANY vac stores other than Kirby and Rainbow dealers.

I can't believe some people ...

I went online and read some reviews of this vacuum, and most people who don't like it complained about emptying the dust cup and cleaning out the filters. WTF? The dirt has to go somewhere! What are they thinking?

people are dumb... that machine you have there is a great cleaner always seems to find dirt, even on a brand new never used carpet. and yet people complain about a dirt cup, just wow

The Altima was one of Eureka's best bagless vacuums of that time period. I have one and I love it to death. It is fully capable of competing even modern bagless vacuums. The cone shaped screen you have to twist-lock into the vacuum is a pain in the ass, but once you get your hand trained in how to insert and lock it in, it isnt a problem at all.

The feather duster is a fun toy to play with but I never had much success with it, I don;t think nylon dusters work all that great. The idea is that its supposed to charge electrostatically in the holster, but I haven't figured out how to work it where it comes out charged up every time.

The cup is small, but you can pack it pretty full and the vacuum still performs good. The filter sponge you wash out and leave on the counter to dry after every use and you're good.

As for the filter - it is not necessary - I have run mine without it because I don;t want to buy a new one until I have refurbished the vacuum.
