Anybody know about this "Hoover Vault" thing?

Others with more knowledge will chime in, but the vault was long gone by the time you were born. Hoover kept the first serial number sweeper on every model new in the "Vault" at the factory (or was it at headquarters?). When TTI purchased them most machines ended up destined for the scrapper. A few dedicated collectors saved what they could, and some are still in private collections.

Correct. The 'vault' was the

"Models and Samples" room. It was a huge room, containing at least one of each model made.  They were kept for patent info, changes in models, legal issues, etc.   Models were stacked high in there..competitors as well. I have the sign from that room. I got it before it was gutted.

Such a shame that TTI decided to scrap the Hoover Vault and forget Hoover's history like that. The brand just hasn't been the same since TTI bought them. :(

On another note though: Canisterman - formerly Kenkart here - Hans Craig, welcome back to Vacuumland! We are all blessed to have a collector with your knowledge back on the forum. And one of the nicest vacuum collectors I have ever talked to.
