a 10.5 amp! holy cow, does it sound like a jet? The 9100 has a 7 amp motor, which is quieter, more reliable, and cleans just as good

i use Hepa bags, it would seem the added oomph of the higher amp motor comes in handy with the Hepas. The lower amp motors could breath easy through the shake out bags they were designed for...i do not like the high sound level however.

Swapping Royal Motors

Good Day,

Would any of you folks happen to know if these motors are interchangeable? Perhaps a list of specs for the various motors? Could a 6 or 7 amp fit in a 10 amp housing? Just wondering what makes the higher amp units so much louder? Is it higher RPMs? I don't know what else it could be, if they all use the same fans.

Also, kind of wondering if the 10 amp units could be altered to slow them down, or adjust whatever causes the extra noise. Is there an internal vent fan that could be the culprit?

The answer is no... The 7 amp and smaller motors (for the pre-1995 units) are of the "non drop in" type whereupon the drop-in types mentioned are 7.5 amps or larger.

Yes, the RPM ranges vary... most high on the 10 amp units. The impeller fans are the same, however, for older units the shaft diameter holes are different.

I've been looking into AC Motor Speed Controllers. It would be sweet to have a variable speed trigger on the 10 amp machine. I was looking at part numbers for Milwaukee 15 amp reciprocating saws. Full price would be $12.00 for the switch, and $30.00 for the controller. Then, a little fabricating and wiring... quite an endeavor, eh? I'll show you the prototype when it's done. Don't hold your breath...
