The original dustbusters from the early 80's? What were your thoughts when they came out?, did you get one? and if so how did you like it? Just recently I dug out my dads original dustbuster from storage and it kinda still works! It's the second model of the original dustbuster with a different switch and label. My dad remembers using it to clean out his car way back when. At the end of this video when they show the two dustbusters, mine is the one in the back. Also does anyone know if you can still find working batteries for these? I really want to get it working properly!
Thanks
Scott

Yes I bought one way back then and used it up until the batteries would no longer hold a charge after a couple of years. That was the disappointing part as it is with all those rechargable things. By the time the batteries are shot it costs about as much to get it "fixed" with new batteries as buying a replacement new one.

I didn't have one in the early 80s, I think my grandma did, but I later got one that I kept in the back of my car to vacuum up any dirt. I was OCD then with my car and house/apartment and still am. I remember the suction was not that great and the battery didn't hold a charge very long.

My grandmother had one she got Xmas 80 or 81 I was born 81and it actually lasted till 89 or 90. She had the off white one with an almost rotary switch that you'd push up rather than the flat wedge one you push down. The new one was the same except the newer switch, and the newer filter was paper rather than cloth and the suction wasn't as good on the new one.

When the design was still of the 1979 version... after B&D changed its logo by the end of '84, they changed the Dustbuster's design with it.

I found a DustBuster Plus, New In Box, at an estate sale about a year ago.. It was a gift -- I would guess... and they didn't ever use it. I remember my parents having one when I was tiny... I vividly recall going to get it.. and I think we bought a second for my grandparents.

I got one new in about 88 and loved it so much we bought Grandma one. The second or third generation was the last of the good ones. By the time they went to a more rounded body with the slider switch it wasn't the same.
My neighbor had the 79 one and gave it to me after the battery pack died. I took it apart and rigged up some kind of battery system using either D or 9 volts. Sadly it's all long gone now.
