kenmore 21814 or similar with good suction

i'm still thinking on the kenmore 21814. i looked at used on ebay but most come without hose/pipe and if they come with them, well almost cost as much a new one. are there any other canisters on the market that are good but not over 400.00? i read everyones suggestions and i go across internet to see the vacuum cleaners.i might just end up with the 21814 new. if youknow of other good newer ones that have great suction please add it in here.i will look. thank you everyone

Personally, I would recommend the Kenmore 81214 over the 21814. It's just as powerful but more basic and you would likely have more break down issues with the 21814 through the years of owning it. That would be my overall recommendation for a budget canister with an electric powernozzle of under 400.

yes ,i love tristar.had one new. bought one off ebay. man rip me off .it screeched, last maybe couple weeks. bought brushes but i am woman, lol so never tried putting them in.hubby has no interest in helping .i was going to buy motor ,so now im mainly focused on a kenmore elite. i have dogs bring mud in on paws.i seen people say get cloth bags if i get kenmore. supposed to have enough power to break paper bags.only thing is i wish they made l-shape powerhead like old electrolux. i have an old electrolux. i can't remember model 45-- or something. bags small ,fill fast.it pops open when they fill which is nice feature but i want new one now .i guess the kenmore elite is a new model 81214 ?i seen a prolux tritan but no powerhead, just a sweeper so thats out. thanks guys for your replys

I agree with dysonman1. I recently purchased Bissell Crosswave patriot vacuum cleaner from the mentioned website. This thing is the BOMB! It cleans everything. I used to have the Hoover Floormate, the deluxe as well. But you had to sweep before you washed floors. This thing is quick, and doesn't create dust from sweeping. Super easy to clean, extremely lightweight.

Must have item if you have pets that shed, track mud in the house (we live in Seattle and have mud like we have rain). It works great on carpet too. Gets all of the pet hairs out that most vacuums leave behind

Only thing is that it isn't as wide of a head as compared to others.

We are 90% carpeted, but I do like to vacuum the plastic mats that the bird cages are on. We currently have a low-end (read: cheap >$40) Bissel and it hasn't lasted us very long. I am hoping to convince him to go with a bagged model or at least a bagless with a water filter. We have a long hair cat and 2 plucking parrots, so I really need to vacuum every day. I was looking at the one you have, has it lasted long? Is it heavy/hard to carry up and down stairs? Do these really work (our current vacuum doesn't work once the hose is out to use an attachment)?

Sorry for all the questions, but I am so done with a vacuum that only puts lines on the floor instead of actually cleaning.
