Yesterday (Labor Day), Arlee and I took a day-trip up to one of our favorite local getaways, Ojai. While we were there, we paid our third visit to the Regalo Olive Farm where we enjoyed another olive oil and balsamic vinegar tasting.
The Regalo Olive Farm produces small-batch artisan extra virgin olive oil that's been rated as among the very finest in the world. This is an amazing company on many levels, not the least of which is the fact that they donate 100% of their profits to local poverty-related charities. ("Regalo" means "gift" in both Italian and Spanish, significant in that they grow Italian and Spanish olives.)
The balsamic vinegars they offer are imported from Italy and bottled there at the farm.
The host of the olive & balsamic tasting is Carolina Bunce. The first time we met her, we were struck by her air of genteel elegance. Turns out she was a leading fashion model with Elite and was the face of Chanel No. 5 back in the 80s. Nowadays, her attention has turned toward architecture and interior design. Her innate sense of design and beauty has made her a much-sought-after design consultant. She and Arlee engaged in an animated and enthusiastic discussion about interior design, a subject I don't know much about at all other than having an appreciation for beautiful and tasteful design.
We bought some more bottles of Caterina pure Arbequina (Spanish) olive oil and aged balsamic vinegars, including unbelievably delicious balsamics -- one variety infused with reduced blackberry essence, another with fig, and the third with coconut.
After the tastings, we took a leisurely stroll with Carolina around the Regalo citrus groves. We brought back a large sack full of lemons and avocados -- and one of the remaining two pears! -- to which she so graciously invited us to help ourselves.
"A Good Time Was Had By All."
