Help Support VacuumLand:

I DON'T BELIEVE IT!!!!!!!!!!!!

Even after SCREWING me over here and IGNORING my Messages, Joan has the NERVE to List MORE Vacuums on ebay Today, one of which is a Hoover Convertible 593, I have TWO of those, plus she's Listed several other Vintage Vacuums and I am literally SICK TO MY STOMACH about it, so I just hope none of you are Stupid enough to Bid on any Vacuums from her, because I GUARANTEE, that she will do the same to the rest of you, Joan doesn't CARE and I TRULY believe that she is doing this on PURPOSE. :-(

THANK YOU kenkart Hans!!

THANKS for the Pictures and I'm so sorry about your Lux, but she looks PERFECT now and like I said, I can Fix my Kenmore, I already Fixed the Bent Handle and pulled Wheels off one of my Junk Singer's, to Install on it, so it's getting there and I will Post Pics of all the Damage later on, but right now, I am sending NUMEROUS Messages to Joan, because I WILL 100% GET MY MONEY BACK, I WILL NOT STOP UNTIL SHE GIVES ME A FULL REFUND, SHE OWES ME!!!!!!!!!!!! Plus, did you know she kinda Screwed me with my Golden POWERmaster as well, Jason and a few others know ALL about that. :-(

I'm sorry your cleaner was damaged in shipping. It's really frustrating when sellers do that, on the rare occasion I sell something on eBay I tend to go way overboard on packing because you never know when UPS will decide to run something over with a truck.

I hate to say this, but I doubt you will be able to get both a full refund and keep the vacuum cleaner. I too have gotten damaged goods from eBay before, the past two Sunbeam Mixmasters I bought were shipped carelessly and the bakelite speed control knobs were broken. Your best bet is probably to see if the seller will give you a partial refund based on the damage/cost of getting parts to repair it. If eBay or bill me later gets involved, most likely they will offer a refund if you ship the item back to the seller.

Also, if you've already done this sorry for suggesting it again, but sending pictures of the damage to the seller might help. I had to do that a few months ago when trying to buy a glass mixing bowl (the first two I bought came to me as boxes full of packing peanuts and broken glass - sending the seller pictures of the damage worked, and neither of them wanted me to ship the broken glass back to them).

If It wasnt for our own!

Doug..collector2, I wouldnt have been able to fix my shipping disaster! He sent me a new body , and while I had the thing apart I greased the bearings and did a general service on it, runs like a champ now.

Packing peanuts and shipping

Have had a lot of damaged items via going the color drek as well as idiots packaging using loose packing peanuts. I mentioned this on a crap yahoo group site and got a lot of attitude. Apparently a lot of people pack the same way. Ebay and PayPal play hot potato with any issue blaming the other keeping you on hold for an hour while you explain the issue to the fifth person until you get the "policy" answer. :)

THANKS, I'm real GLAD you both like my oldest and first Cat, Misty, but she is just one of 5 Kitties I have, plus, a T-Rex Sized Australian Cattle Dog... ;-)

Anyway, I sent TWO MORE MESSAGES on ebay to Joan Hilbert and AGAIN, she is not Responding back. :-( This is REDICULOUS and you know, on her ebay Profile she even says- If you have a legitimate complaint, I will refund full purchase price plus shipping.

But, as you all know, she isn't doing that for me. :-( I'd also rather not try going through Paypal for this, because as we all know, Paypal is a JOKE and prolly won't help; however, I did Speak to my Lawyer and as a last Resort, he said he will Call her and Demand she Refund my Money, or we'll take her to Court, so I'm pretty damn confident that I'll get my Money back... ;-) And no, like I said, I will NEVER send this Kenmore back to her, it's MINE now and is going to be Fixed and Restored to LIKE NEW, you'll all see, I'll Post Pics when I'm Finished, but I WILL get my Money back!!!!!!!!!!!! :-D

BTW, there were NO Packing Peanuts or ANYTHING, other then that little bit of Newspaper in a PAPER THIN Box and yes, I keep finding more and MORE Damage to my RARE AS HELL Orange Kenmore here. :-(

I Read your Post and don't understand why you Removed it, because it was fine and all?

Anyway, you Guys should see how Joan Packed the Singer Golden POWERmaster I Bought from her in December and although I had SEVERAL ISSUES with her regarding that Vacuum as well, she found and sent the missing Parts and things were OK; however, after looking CLOSELY at my Golden POWERmaster Today, I noticed that it also has Shipping Damage, a BENT Handle I never noticed before, slightly Bent, but Bent nonetheless, so her POOR Packing got my TWICE it seems. :-(

You guys in the USA don't seem to have any luck with eBay? It's pretty good over here. And eBay looks after us.

GET THEM TOLD!

I have never

had a problem with Paypal or ebay with refunds for damaged/unshipped items. They are very nice to work with and I always receive a refund . All I do is file a claim and they handle everything and within a few days the money is back in my account . I love ebay and paypal and live in the USA here in NJ .

Shipping vintage vacuum cleaners on eBay has to be done properly. They are often long and ungainly and have specific packaging requirements. Many casual eBay sellers do not realize this truism and the result is a broken item. I've sold vacuum cleaners on eBay previously, but it would be a rare machine that I'd sell there now. The fee structure is discouraging, especially since they started subjecting monies remitted for shipping to a fee, and especially with heavier objects that therefore incur a greater fee. When I was doing it, packing an upright vacuum cleaner properly for shipping typically involved my making a custom-fabricated container and dunnage material. This all involved time and materials for which I sought no compensation.

Entities in the US that provide shipping services are basically set up to handle things by automated means in bulk. They often do not do well with poorly packed items or those that are a non-standard size (like long and skinny). No vacuum cleaner should ever be sent in a single-wall cardboard box; when I've shipped vacs, they've always been at least double-boxed. Even a brand new machine in its original packaging may not survive singly in the mail or the UPS system; they are shipped to stores packed with like items, all strapped together on a shipping pallet. Their original packing isn't intended for them to be dumped loose into an automated parcel handling system.

MoparHemiPower, the following isn't intended as a criticism. You had problems with this seller the first time around. In my own case, no matter how enticing her subsequent offerings might've been, I would not want to even chance a second hosing from her. Live and learn; your first experience with her is probably an example of how she conducts business routinely.

I'm sorry I cannot give any insight into withholding funds from her, as I've no experience with the pay later policies. What you received from the seller was "significantly not as described" (SNAD). It is the responsibility of the seller to convey the purchased item to the buyer in the condition originally described/shown in the listing. When you get a beat-up, broken item that was shown as intact in the listing, the item is SNAD. This is the basis for refund or non-payment, including original shipping costs. Usually, the buyer is responsible for returning the item (including return shipping costs) to the seller to get the refund. Using a shipping means with a tracking number enables PayPal to see when the item is received back by the seller, then they issue the refund.

Shouldn't upright vacuums be shipped Disassebled if possible? The few I have gotten shipped to me-used or new-were shipped disassembled.even if its removing the handle bar from the base part.Note that Kirbys are delivored disassembled. The packing job on that poor machine in the first picture is pretty lame.

So I found....

A very similar one like the one that James has. But with a few odd differences. Mine has the on off in the top of the hood. Second off, mine bag does not have the holes punched in a flower pattern, and lastly and most odd...the cord on mine comes out the very top of the handle. Weird huh?

Anyone ever see this rather odd variation? I does appear to be in my 1977 Sears Catalog for all of $37.00.
