Yay! I saw it on eBay with a $40 Buy It Now...
I figured, since they don't grow on trees--and it's one that I've been after--I may as well bite the bullet.

Any Guesses?

Ok, ok, ok...

I won't keep you guessing.

After my email to the seller, telling her to be sure she "takes extra care packaging it, so it didn't get damaged in transit" ... and she reassured me that she would do just that...

I open the box to find this.
*Sigh*
They just don't get it...

Thank heavens it wasn't dented, or god forbid bakelite broken or cracked!

All out of the box!

A Hoover model 55!

They only made this for a tiny while--it was the last "tank" Hoover produced before releasing the model 82 Constellation.

Made from 1953-1954; they made 48,225 of them.

It's missing the wands (which I've got some from another Hoover tank), and the hose needs to be replaced I'm sure I've got something that will do...

I think it will clean up quite nicely!

Yay!! Great find Fred, can't wait to see it when you have it all cleaned up! Congratulations!!

Great sigh of relief when nothing turned up broken; bet your heart plunged when you shook the box & opened it, Fred.

It looks really nice and as you say, all that's needed is wands and a more matching hose, if that ain't it.

Dave.

The scary thing is...

...the bubble wrap was probably the 'extra care' she promised. If you hadn't asked for it, you may have found it thrown in the box with no padding at all! I've received cleaners like that - I once got a Sebo X1 just wrapped in a bin-liner with a lable slapped on it...they didn't even stretch to a box!

Looks like it's in very nice condition, and quite rare, by the sound of it! Congrats!

Nice Find, Fred!!

And a beautiful machine. Doesn't look like you'll have much work to do on it, appears to be in fine shape. Seems like this model combines features of the previous larger and smaller Aerodynes in one machine--it has the back end and handle of the larger models and the rest of it looks like the smaller models. Glad you got the attachments with it as well. I have a model 42 and only have the hose, wands, rug nozzle, and dusting brush with mine. Congratulations,
Jeff
