Another Model C joins the family

Well, I got another Model and it’s even better shape than my earlier model C w/o headlight. This one is shined up already years ago but I’ll make it look even better. Bag is good shape but ahead, small hole but I will have to make a special welding repair. I’m amazed to found one again. . I was looking for an old Royal but this catch satisfies me for now. Haha. It runs great with only minor bearing whine down ( old dried grass bearings I’m sure ....I may tear it down to grease them up. If I keep it, I may insert a hepa bag inside the factory bag if I use it. . Also scored a N.I.B. Legend II to complete my Legend collection along with other small parts for other Kirbys
I’ll post more pics once I polish it later on, maybe a couple more as it is now perhaps though

I told ya about belt caps. I'm going stab in the dark you visited vacuum shop in Texas.
Very jealous nice find. I have only seen a couple similar bags so box it up that's rare.

That nozzle cap IS for this model , but my older Model C has a different belt cap I learned...ugh. harder to find. Here it is found in the archives of this forum, I need that gold colored one

That looks like the other black one I've seen repainted. I've seen them painted black and red but never like that. I don't know on that cap.

The brass plate for the belt cover is correct for the early C (without the headlight)

the Black Bakelite cap is correct for the late model C (with the headlight), it was also used in the 2C, 3C, 4C and early 505.

You are close. There are 2 black belt caps. The one I have are 4c 505 vacuums. The other black has 3 lines on the top left and the bottom right. The belt cap he has matches description if you painted it it's identical to the early model c one.

There are 2 black belt caps. 4c 505 version I'm guessing 3c on one that looks exactly like the copper one it's just black but same design.
Just look at pics the one in my hand is 505 4c. The next is exactly like copper one but it's black.
So I'm guessing 1c 2c copper belt cap 3c black one similar to copper and 4c 505 one I possess.
I was getting to people probably get 3c and paint it.

No, the Black one is not ‘exactly like the copper one ‘. Don’t you see the lower tab on the copper/brass one? None of the Black ones have that thought I do see the differences you point out on the black ones .

Ya it's not exactly like black one. It was probably all copper or metal mold. I know how hard it is to find black belt lifters belt caps are either user made or original but idk I've never seen one in person but pics show they do exist as you have 2 model Cs.
Its getting harder to find but you got 2 in a short span.

After taking my ‘new’ C model to my Kirby technician friend, we examined the two C’s yogether and compared them to the poster from Kirby of the model history. It was interesting to observe the difference in the nozzle openings . We are convinced that my early model C is , indeed, the earliest model C because it has features of the Scott Sanitation Sytem data plate and sani-emptor plate and the power nozzle plate is different from my ‘older’ C ( I’m missing the plate but the casting shows it needs a different plate than the ‘normal’ Model C. I have an N.O.S. Base plate in plastic packaging....and it doesn’t line up correctly to the earlier model C !

Look at the poster photos , interesting , on the power nozzle photos, note the earlier model has two spacing cutouts ( for the belt cover) that are wider and they are at about 60 degrees vs the 180 degree offset of the newer model nozzle) than the other one .

This ( my early model C) appears to be a transitional vac as it was morphing from a Scott Setzer model into a Model C Kirby. Wow!!!! Freaking rare

I don't know model c history well other than it came after vacuette and sanitation systems. Yours could be prototype. It's in good condition. Glad to see you find out more about it. The whole vacuum era particular Kirby pre 505 is very vague and not pieced together. I find Kirby's are so popular but the 25 year gap in history is vague. It's popularity and it's lack of information is insane. Idk but other than pattens there is information gap. He was a private man who lived a long time and vacuums are today off his ideas. So more information would be nice.
