So the question is...

Do I put a plug on and give it a spin or leave it in its "virgin" state??

What would you do??

Seamus

P.S sorry for the large pics !

Seamus!

Plug it in and clean! You may sub a bag from another Hoover, so as to preserve the new one.

Spectacular, Seamus, congratulations! I know how long you've been after this one, and if anyone deserves it, it's you! :)

WRT the plug...it might sound like stating the obvious, but once you've run it...you can no longer say you have a brand new 912A which has never been run. And you do have two other very similar cleaners if you want the experience of using this type of machine. And you probably won't find another brand new one to replace it.

So you can guess what my vote is, but it is, of course, your cleaner and decision. I won't shun you if temptation gets the better of you ;)

1 further point: If you do decide to put a plug on it, at least capture it's 'maiden voyage' on video, it's not every day you get the opportunity to do that!

Well I wouldn't see as it sounds like you have a used one already to play with. I'd just keep it for display and oogling at.

Lucky Sod!

Seamus Dude,

Long time no speak.

Well done on the 912A, The guy who was selling it offered it to me, but finances being the way they are, and how difficult the past month has been meant I could not afford it, nor could I justify my hobby taking priority. My little one had to come first!

Just to let you know, Jennifer has now been given the all clear after a month of hospitals, sleepless nights, worrying days and general nightmare! For all the worry and strife a baby can bring though, when she smiles, I dont think anything matters any more and the world is suddenly the most wonderful place again!

Back to the 912A.
That is a fantastic machine, mine is a 1970 vintage and well used, but they are simply the best straight cleaners that have ever been made as far as I am concerned! They simply never die, (unless obscenely abused) and look timeless, especially with the C1312 incarnation! (Mine is quite special to me, as it is the only cleaner my Dad has actually bought for me, he really doesn't understnad why to this day, and that was about 15 years ago! LOL)

I would hope that OK, you might put a plug on the old lady just to see how she sounds, but then let her remain pristine! :D, but then would I??? Ooooooo the dilemma!

One day, the classic hoover emporium is really going to have to connect with the Dover contingent, and perhaps a certain selection of others such as one from Woking, and Chester and Bournemouth e.t.c. All the US guys and gals cant be having ALL of the fun!

Anyway, will call you soon mate. All the very best and once again well done.

Happy hoovering,

Clark.
(I am still alive) LOL

Clark :)

Hey Mate

Firstly to get my priorities right thats fantastic news about Jennifer- I would imagine to say youve been worried the last month or so would be somewhat of an understatement!.

Back to Hoovers .......

As Jack will testify ive been after a 912/912A for ages now lol. I saw this one when it was first listed but missed it ending as Gran was admitted to hospital with a bad leg and I kinda got sidetracked- shes on the mend now thankfully but may have to go into a nursing home for a while.

I struggled to justify the money to be honest but couldnt resist in the end. It has a few marks on the hood and the bag is a bit dirty from sitting in a cleaning cupboard for over 30 years but it is unused :).

Next to do is a gentle hand washing of the bag in Woolite and a quick Brasso over the hood and she should look great :). As nice as the U7008 and the C1312 are I do prefer the look of this one- I think it looks are much more retro, especially the grille over the Dirtsearcher- and obviously the fact it has the lamp is a plus point to :).

Hope to catch up very soon mate!

You are certainly having luck with these Commercials!

How do you do it Seamus - another superb condition BIG Hoover, to add to the collection.

the machine looks great, although i admit to not knowing much about the commercial side of the hoover range, even i can tell that you made the right decision in going for it. I wont ask the price - you can keep that to your good self.

Adding the plug? hmmmmmmm. personally, i side with jack. Maintain its uniqueness as a machine that only the Hoover factory has actually turned on. I am such a killjoy!

have fun.

Now, that's a museum piece alright!

So glad you got it, that's probably the finest one in the country! If it were mine, I'd find it very hard to resist firing it up, but it would strictly be a special occasions machine, definitely not a daily driver! But it's certainly not a machine that's going to wear out quickly, in any case!

Whatever you decide to do though, it's definitely (another) one to cherish!

Simon
