when I had the micromeet with dave I asked him if he had any Dirt Devil vacs from the 90's and he told me that he had a canister. well last night at about 8:30 pm I decided that I was bored and wanted to rebuild this little machine, upon taking it apart I found that the motor was the same motor as A c bag Dirt Devil Deluxe upright, the motor in the Unit was blown due to a bad commutator and the Carbon brushed were no where in sight. so I decided to tear in to a eureka Maxima, one of the $40 ones at Kmart and retrieve the motor. Although the motor diamater was a little small I used both rubber seals and some cardboard to seal the motor airtight. I then cushioned it so that it was balanced with the machine so the motor is not throwing itself throughout the machine. with a little clean up and a new cord on both the powerhead and the main vacuum I have to say that this little machine has a lot of power, as a matter of fact the powerhead sticks to the floor. so I just wanted to say thank you Dave for making another Dream machine happen

I have one of those too. I like it to play with from time to time. Mine is the burgandy one but I have the red power head with it ( thanks Andy Weder) I also have the electric hose with it.
It is a powerful little vac with 1400 watts of power but it's downfall is the bags are way to small and for some reason it will NOT stay on it's wheels. Every tile I vacuum with it the thing stays on it's side or upside down. I used to fight it but I gave up, so when I use it it's always being drug around upside down ( only on carpet) I would never let it get scratched.

You could not be more Welcome, Mike.

You've done a super job getting that DD in running order and I am so pleased you found the way to have a Vacuum Room. It's a nice small sized PN, eh?

Dave

thanks Dave
that power head is great for its size and the best thing is that it really deep cleans my carpets.
and yes philip it feels great to have a vac room and I have your number so I think I will run you a call sometime

Nice vacuum there. Seeing it next to that Lux model G really gives a good impression of its small size. I always figured they were a bit larger than that.

Phillip: I think your lucky to have found a burgandy version. I'm always looking for the Dirt Devil pro series cleaners and other interesting variants. If I had to guess, I'd say they made at least one pro series variant of every standard model line in the 90s. I know that as late as the 2000s there were a few different pro series can vacs, one was blue, and one was burgandy. There may have even been a green one.

Congratulations on getting one of your dream machines Mike!!!Dave is such a good guy =). Congrats on your vacroom also. Its nice to have a home for the little guys lol.

Erik, long time no talk, your right about the DD Can-vac pro series. they did have burgandy And and green, they also had a blue Royal version in the early to mid 90's.
Hope school is goin good for ya =)

I did not know that they had a green version... hmm something tells me that the green version must be rare. now that is something I got to look for

Before any of these vacuums leave the staging room for the big room you must give all their rubber bumpers and bodies a going over with Magic Eraser.

I really like the idea of uprights two deep with the back ones on a raised platform. Or three rows if you can manage it.

I do understand how plans change as the dream takes hold and just about anything is possible. :-)

Dave

IIRC the green was a pretty hunter green.
Prince-I agree they should have put that PN on some stick vacs. Simple operation tho ;)

My grammie had one of the straight suction ones in her trailer! I got to use it every time I went to New Hampshire! AHHHHHHHHHHHH SWEET MEMORIES!!!

Speaking of green Dirt Devils, I found this on craigslist in California. I didn't have the money, and they probably would not ship it anyway, so I didn't get it.

I really wish that they would bring back the old Soft bag machines and the Deluxe models as they were great cleaners, I use my Deluxe daily and love the way it grooms and cleans my carpets. as for my soft bag last I remembered it needed a new Brushroll

Yes...

They did groom nicely,I found one in the trash with nothing wrong but a full bag and dirty, hardly a scratch,it really groomed my carpets good for about a year b4 it found a quarter I dint see. I found a MVP in black in the trash the handle had a crack right at the base where it screwd into the main body. I glued and screwd the bast I could and gave it to my aunt and her plush carpets fluffed up nicely too.

hey on the classic hard body upright was the red a Classic, the green an Extra, and the black a Deluxe??? I have the red and the matching soft body. The hard body is dated 1994.

Phill...

Im not sure about the green.I think the green was made for certain stores and/or dealer/vac-shop so they could say "exclusively at..." as far as the black ones they did say deluxe on them but the only real difference was the color IIRC.
And yes the green that you remember was slightly brighter than the Pro-series i think.

Also

The Pro line was no different than the plain ol Reds...with the excption of the Can vac.The DD Can Pro & Royal(blue& bugrgandy's) had chrome wands instead of plastic.

When it comes to the old style uprights, there are 3 major versions, which I believe were made simultaniouly. You had the low end soft and hard case models (like the featherlite), the cloth bagged and hard body models with headlights (like the green one I posted), and the hard body only clean air "Upright", "Deluxe", and early "MVP" models.

For early Dirt Devil cleaners I have seen the following variants which cover most model lines:

Major Variants:
Standard (Red)
Pro Series (Green or Blue)
Signature Series (Black with Red)
Plus (Black, Red, or rare Green)

Less Common, Really Odd, or Limited to Certain Cleaner Types:
Sterling Jet (see image) - Only seen one - ever!
Series 500 (hand vacs - Black with yellow or Black with Red)
Car Vac - Kenny Wallace Edition
Dirt Devil Labeled Metal Vacuums

omg I soooooo want those 2 models, they are Nice machines. lol
as far as Dirt Devils go
I have
2 MVP
1 SOFT BAG LITE
original broom vac (
a newer 90s broom vac
room mate
3 hand vacs
and the Dust devil Hand vac

in my opinion the older ones were the best for that brand as there were not as many flaws as there are now. my MVP already is a 1/4 of the way full and I have been using it for 3 days, it could be because it is winter and that salt and dirt are being tracked through the house. but all in all I have to say that my MVP is a great cleaner

Car Vac - Kenny Wallace Edition

I never seen that one,Id love to get my hands on one =),or atleast see it lol. And I forgot about the plain black profiles and other names they had. They used the Classic tag alot to didnt they?
I know now TTI hads the classic hand vac. It looks like the 'Classic" but I bet the hepa filter chokes quickly and it looks like it could be a screamer. Im sure someone can fill me in on that?

Here is a picture of the Kenny Wallace edition car vac. Aside from the Kenny Wallace name on the bag and body, it appears pretty much like the standard car vac that I have. This is the only one I have seen. The car vac I have is a poor performer, much worse than the standard 2 amp models.

In addition to the Profile name, they used Classic, Sensation, Lite, Lite Plus, Toughmate, Extra HP, Impulse, and probably others.

WOW

Thanks Eric,I love it. My parents and I are race fans so I don't know how I ever missed this in the stores. I sooo want to get the Jeff Gordon and Dale robot vacs but they are/were 200 each when I seen the a year or 2 ago.

I remember the DD Car vac I thought sure it would work better than a reg 12v car-vac. The car vac I have now looks similar to the DD and it works just as good as the 2amp the tools dont suck to goo though, but not bad for the in between like today its 23 degrees and snow and ice is still on some roads and my driveway so I will touch up the car with it this morning b4 my aunts funeral cause were using my car as the family car behind the hurse. Lucky me. Again thank you Eric for showing me the pic I will post a pic of my DD imposter car-vac when I get a min.

As a fan of racing, and of GM automobiles, I'd also like to get my hands on the Eureka Corvette Vac. They pop up from time to time.

I like the Kenny Wallace stuff. He was driving a Pontiac at the time. I have some of the diecast Dirt Devil racing stuff, and have seen racing related Dirt Devil ads on ebay. In addition to the car vac, the series 500 hand vacs also had a racing theme.
