When I got home from work and the gym tonight, there was a rather large box waiting for me on the porch. David Bryan from Orlando told me that he was sending me a present! Yaaay! Presents are always lost of fun!

It's an absolutely beautiful Royal Pony! This cleaner is in spectacular shape!
I had one of these a few years back -- badged as an Electro-Hygine -- that I sold to Rick Asquith during the St. Louis convention. Looking back on it now, I have a tiny bit of regret in doing so; but I know it's still in good hands, and I needed the money back then... Plus I'm sure he'll let me visit with it should I ever come knocking in St. Louis.
Ok, back to the subject at hand... I think David and I had discussed via email that I wouldn't mind having another one of these. He then, very graciously, surprised me and offered to send me this one!
I'm super excited to give it a run through its paces. I have the day off tomorrow -- and after I get a haircut and go to the gym, I plan on vacuuming the entire house from top to bottom! ((Of course, I'm going to give it a spin tonight, too)).
Thanks so much, David! It really means a lot to me that you sent this my way! I absolutely love the powerhead, and of course -- the 10' hose!

Very nice, and love the floors.
I remember a chuch we went to when I was a teenager that has one of theese, it was the first time I had ever seen one. I never got to use one but had always wondered about them! What is the preformance like? Congrats on the new addition!! Its a real beauty!

You can come visit the Electro-Hygiene anytime! It's sitting proudly on display in my main vacuum room, with that unique manta shaped powernozzle right below it. I think that is the quietest, smoothest running power nozzle I have and does a nice job on my plush carpet. I really appreciated you sending me the chrome cordwinder and the extra wands and straight suction rug tool for it also. One thing I thought strange though is the brand name does not show on the machine, it's there, but under the tool caddy. I wonder why they couldn't have put a sticker on the caddy like Royal did? I think mine is closer to a baby blue than the Royal color.

I actually just got a Royal Power Tank a few weeks ago! Just finished cleaning it up a few days ago. Unfortunately the seller failed to mention that the machine was missing the crevice tool, and that BOTH rear wheels were cracked. It was well used. Cleaned up nicely though, and sounds perfect!

What years were Royal Ponys in production?
Royal Ponys really are the more astonishing cylinder vacuum cleaner ensembles considering how recent they seem to be.
I first saw one in one of those minimeet type threads about 4-5 years ago. At first glance I thought 'geez, that's ugly' but thought it was a great take on the tool saddle idea.
Of course we all know the high quality of Royal tools and the fact that they color match the vacuum is a plus.
Then I got my first, the Burgundy one, and exclaimed about the loooooong electric hose in a thread. A few months back I got the blue one for free because it has been in a muddy flood - it cleaned up like new.
Ya gotta use one of these to really appreciate their excellence. First off, it's a classic all metal construction straight through cylinder that uses a cardboard disc-gasketed paper bag similar to an Air-Way. The vacuum has two wheels in back and ball casters in front meaning it spins in it's own length, stays where it's put and follows you and the hose like a faithful puppy. The clever tool saddle at first looks bulky but it acts like padded bumper against obstacles. The tools and nozzles are substantial cast aluminum with coloured rubber/vinyl bumpers or entirely molded of same. The saddle is designed to hug the side curve of the cylinder body, with wells that cradle each and every (ALL) tool in an upright position. They will not fall off or out yet are easy to pluck out at a moment's need.
The electric Hoses are color matched as well and made of a surprisingly flexible high grade vinyl plastic with double spiral coils to carry the AC. They are essentially crush and tangle proof, yet coil compactly for storage.
Judging from my two examples the blue one has a true 7 foot hose and the Burgundy tops that by another 3.5' for a 10.5 foot reach!
Just did a gauge measurement - the one speed Blue pulls 85". The Burgundy has a sliding motor speed adjustment (in addition to the step on toe switch) - low pulls 70" which tops out at 106 paint & plaster sucking inches.
Mine have two different style pns and they are as good as any I have used; track straight without wobble and leave lovely smooth trackless paths.
The only feature mine are missing that would make them all purpose perfect is the cordwinder which I guess would have been the only option? Occasionally the Royal cordimatic comes up on eBay but so far, no luck.
The Pony also came in a yellow version (I have seen one) that I would dearly like to add to the Pony Stable.
I've loaned mine out on occasion to a ladyfriend in vacuum distress whose care and judgement I trust but will always insist on having it back.
I empathize with you Fred at a wistful regret at it's departure and am so glad you have another now. I have every confidence it will indeed clean every square inch and cranny of your home with flair and ease. Frankly, I can't imagine ever letting a Pony get away but I suppose if I had say 2 blue ones...

Here's a close up of the tank. It has a pretty substantial pre-motor filter, which I like. It's got a very 'tank-y' sound to it (like a louder Electrolux). It comes with a wonderful set of attachments! The dusting brush is awesome, and the bare floor brush works beautifully. I'm also keen on the long hose, but would like it more if it had at least one end swivel. Even though it's very broken in, the hose is actually still in remarkable shape!

The grip is a little bulky, but the variable speed control is great! It's got a few scrapes left over from it's previous owner, but has held up well!

A good freind of mine out here-his wife used to use a Powertank for her cleaning-janitorial work.The machine held up well until the motyor died-this machine was a residentual model used for COMMERCIAL work for over 10years.She replaced it with a Riccar 1500-yes the Royal would be better.Bill-her husband-and former owner of the Vacuum Cleaner Hospital could not save her vacuum-no more motors available..One time I brought my Blue Pony out to the transmitter site for cleaning the transmitters-worked REALLY well-I was amazed how much dirt,dust,screws,and greaseballs were packed in the Royals bag!.Now we have a special "Port-a-vac" made up by Greenville Vacuum and Sewing that uses an MD central vac mounted on a janitorial cart-this rig works so nice-and the long hose reaches into transmitters without having to bring the machine in the transmitter.the Royal wasn't a problem in the transmitter-but the Shop Vacs used here were-and their short hoses weren't of much use.The shop Vacs were good at cleaning up water spills from leaks in transmitter cooling systems from a component failure.

I have the
Burgundy model.. My only problem is the Power Nozzle vibrates. I wonder if there is something that could be making it run off balenced.
