Eureka !!!!

NO I know it's a Universal. It is the one that my neighbors had back in 1950, before I went to school. I have never seen
one since. So now I at least have pictures of it. As I remember, there's, I thought was an Apex?? What did I know at
that age (4/5). Plus there's could have been a newer version
or model. As I remember it had A Kirby like shaped handle grip. Plus the switch was in the top of or down the handle. It was a rocky type switch!! I remember the look and I remember the swivel wheel in the back. As I was confussed
a few years later when I first met a Eureka 11, straight suction from the 20's, with the back swivel wheel. So I am
getting closer. Now if I could just come across an Apex of the same time or later vintage. So I could see it !!
There are really so many different models of those vintage
cleaners!!

1929 Universal

I have one just like it, only mine has its original cloth-covered cord. It bears the name "Whirlwind" on the bag and on the belt cover. These were more reliable than the early straight-suction Universals which used zinc bearings which had a tendency to swell and seize the motor. He did a nice job fabricating a new bag. I only wish he had used a black cord when rewiring it.

I love it!

I'd love to have that machine...but I didn't see the listing, since I'm not constantly checking US Ebay plus you don't always know quite where to look. Also I'm not sure if he/she would post to the UK...but if I see anything like that I often email to see if they'll do it for you, since many sellers are quite obliging.

I've imported a few machines from the US now and there's some great stuff out there; I just have to watch my pocket!

One thing I did see listed was that Electrolux model V - wouldn't mind one of those..but I thought that it already had a bid plus it didn't seem in especially good nick/complete. I think that the handgrip had been stuck back together.

I have a couple of model X1s but they're very low in power compared to today's vacuums - nice as a collector's item...but I like to use my old machines and these won't get used much..though I can see myself using the Universal.
