An Oreck older than I am?

Recently I have learned about a vacuum that may or may not go down in vacuum history. That would be the Oreck XL4000. Amazingly this Oreck would be a grandfather to my newer Orecks Anyway, I am curious to know, as I am an Oreck "enthusiast" if any of you are willing to sell an Oreck XL4000. I am curious to see if I may be able to get one if any of the three opportunities to get other vacuums don't work out as planned.

I found this on hrs Oreck website, "Founded by David Oreck in 1963, Oreck Corporation began as a manufacturer of upright vacuum cleaners for the U.S. hotel industry. Today the company produces and sells vacuums, steam mops, floor machines, air purifiers and cleaning products for use in both hotels and homes throughout the U.S., Canada and parts of Europe." I assume that they may be talking about the XL4000

If any of you are willing to part with this Oreck please let me know. It would be amazing for it to be part of my collection. Also, I am looking for any Fantoms for less than fifty dollars. If any of you have a fantom you are willing to part with please let me know too.

Can anyone tell me any background about the XL4000? I know it was made under the name "MacDonald Electric" but a genuine Oreck would be cool. I have included some pictures of what I may be looking for. Sorry for being annoying with all the posts today. Oh and if any of you have an Oreck XL100C I would also be interested in that.

WAYYYY before the 4000, the original was a Whirlpool product!

In Fact....Sears sold it too under the Kenmore name..

If you want to see one, Look at Will's pictures of his big haul...the hardbody thing next to the Kenmore upright, that is the same color is one of the first!!

There is am Oreck CVR4000 for sale now on eBay. http://www.ebay.com/itm/ORECK-CVR-4...ion-/151356488793?pt=LH_DefaultDomain_0&hash= Prior to the Oreck, it was originally built by the Whirlpool Corporation, the LV55 was one of the first "High Speed" uprights that Whirlpool sold. Also the Celoc name originated with Whirlpool also. Sears marketed these machines under the Kenmore label also, the bag was enclosed in a plastic shell on most of the Kenmore models.

Orecklover, back in 1973, an Aunt and Uncle of mine built a new large home with a fully finished basement,,all with wall to wall thick looped shag carpet upstairs, downstairs and the stairs themselves!

I was 8 yrs old at the time.

The house they sold before moving into the new house had Central Vac, somthing that i was totally amazed by, and wondered how on earth they could ever top having Central Vac! I mean, afterall, Central Vac was nothing to sneeze at!,,and the Epitome of a Vacuum! (so i thought)

Well, after they moved into the new place,,my uncle brought home the new vacuum,--- an Oreck 4000.

I was there that day, and was the first one to use the NEW vacuum on the NEW carpet!,,and it was a vacuum that i had NEVER seen or heard of before!
(a VERY BIG DEAL in my little world!)

I liked the litle Oreck very much, and it seemed to clean OK. I was a little diapointed tho,,i thought such thick heavy carpet deserved a BIG HEAVY vacuum!

The kicker is,, that Oreck lasted at least 20 yrs AND thru another home with thick carpet they moved into later.

The motor finally gave out in the mid 90s,,after a life well lived,,it was the only carpet vacuum she had all those yrs.

(She had a Eureka Princess cannister for above the floor cleaning,,and was a clean freak, so i know those vacs got ALOT of use, and on all that THICK carpet and all that heavy 1960s, 70s furniture!)

My Aunt moved to an assisted living apartment in around 1994, and i know she took her trusty Oreck with her,even tho she didnt need to,,she loved that vac!
Thats where she was living when it finally quit.

So, that had to have been a VERY well built machine to last that long,,and thru all that use, and on such thick heavy carpet.

I dont know how well it "deep cleaned" but it did well enough to please her,,which wasnt easy to do,,she was the American version of Hyacynth BUCKET!

I bought her a Hoover Elite after the Oreck finally died, but she didnt like it near as well as her Oreck!

BTW, My Aunt's Oreck 4000 looked EXACLY like the one pictured above, except the cover was a light blue instead of dark.

CVR4000

I too used an Oreck CVR4000 in powder blue and the original Whirlpool/Oreck upright. We had them both at a bank I worked at while a teen.
The Whirlpool was black and had "Whirlpool" across the bag. Don't remember the model though. Both were great for quick pickups and stood up to commercial use.
I wish I had the Whirlpool back. It is probably a rare piece nowadays.

The oreck xl 4000 in the above pic was mine, I sold it to someone in PA a couple of years ago. It cleaned well, I first used one in 1978 cleaning at a movie theater.
I should have kept it.

The XL4000 was sourced from Germany. The original Oreck 8 pound was a Whirlpool power nozzle (same as the Kenmore), with a fan in the knuckle/pivot and a bag on the front. Once Whirlpool stopped making this available to Oreck, David Oreck sourced the XL4000. The very short handle betrays its European heritage.

Here's my CVR 2000 that's pre-oreck as a brand name, it was sold by oreck when they were just a sales and distributing company. Next to it is a newer model. I have a black XL4000 but it's still needing restored.

I forgot to add, although the picture makes some of it clear, that Whirlpool designed the lightweight machine, even the 4000 series was designed by Whirlpool but the design was sold off to oreck when whirlpool lost interest or any need of it.
