An ORANGE Hoover Convertible

Here is my latest aquisition. This is a Hoover Convertible U4095 which was a gift from Buffalo Joe. He brought it with him this weekend. So a big thank you to you Joe for this very nice machine. This one is from 1975-1977 and is one of the last ones with the metal base. It is a no frills model as it has the bottom fill bag, no headlight, short cord, and a one speed motor. This machine sports a twelve bladed fan made of plastic! It has the front type conversion for the tools. This one is in near mint condition and saw very little use. The only thing really that the original owner did was suck up lots of "Carpet Fresh" that was damp. This made the motor go bad and the brush roll freeze. At my house, parts for these machines are NO problem at all. This one cleaned up beautifully and is now part of my collection. Thanks Joe!

Here is the U4095 with its sister model the U4123. They are both very similar machines and the instruction booklet is marked with both model numbers which means they shared the same booklet. It is so sad that these were the last of the "good" Hoover uprights. The plastic base models are just so noisy and break much easier. Who knows if they will ever make such a good cleaner again?

I also just noticed that your U4123 has the incorrect headlight lens. It should be a solid red lens, with (obviously) no headlight.

Need one? I think I may have an extra. Let me know.

This U4123 has been converted to a lighted model. The red plastic top is transluscent when you use it. Yes, if you have an extra lens, I would be happy to buy it from you and pay for the shipping. I have been looking for one for awhile. When it is off, it looks ok. I should for now just take out the bulb. This was the LAST of this hood style from Hoover. It ended up on the bottom of the line machine. Does yours have rear or front conversion? This one is early and has rear conversion. The converter track is taupe where the rest of the machine is painted white.

Tom that is a beautiful vacuum. I had no idea Hoover had so many orange models. I went into a thrift store last Friday and spotted (from a distance)what I thought was a model 34. Turned out to be this U4047.....in perfect conditon. It followed me home. The base and handle are taupe although they look white in the photo.

Nice find...I hope you got a very good deal on the machine. They are every bit a Hoover through and through just minus a few extras. Your U4047 was a "popular" priced machine and was built from 1973 to 1975. It also was one of those machines that magically changed colors without changing model numbers. There was the darker orange first (on the right) followed by the more tangerine color orange (on the left). The color difference is hard to see in the photo. The bag actually was different too. The darker orange one has a "tweed" pattern in it, and the lighter one is one solid color. This machine was replaced in 1975 by the white base U4089 that looked the same as the U4047 but was a light yellow instead. Congrats on your recent find!

Thanks for the info on these models. The one I found has the tweed printed bag although it doesn't show up in the picture. I love finding the old Hoover models....it reminds me of a quality that once was Hoover.
