An Airway with a Eureka twist!

So I was bouncing around the vintage vacuum section of ebay when I ran across a machine you don't see everyday. It was a turquoise Airway sanitizer 88 tank with the Eureka vibragroomer powernozzle! The listing said it worked well but that some attachments where missing. I only know of 3 or 4 of these vacuums in the group but are they as hard to come by as I think they are? Also,what is the best bag to get since all I can find is single ply generics?

Reuse an original bag collar and tuck it into the lower half of a Simplicity type F HEPA bag.

Wait a sec. This is not the correct canister with this set up. It would have been the turquoise and white model...... hmmmmmm Could this be a later add on or are we all wrong on what we thought was the first?

Hello All,
A curiosity question regarding the Eureka Power Nozzle on this Air-Way.
Does this use the standard Eureka motor to power the brush roll?
Did they leave the Eureka fan in it as working like Eureka's upright vacuums?

The first ones with a power nozzle

Used a Hamilton Beach upright but they are so rare I have only seen the picture,

I've been scouring the internet for years trying to find a pic of that Hamilton Beach power nozzle, or a frestanding Hamilton Beach upright from the late 60's I only found it once in person, years ago.

Rare, yes!! Only thing rarer than the Eureka is the Hamilton Beach version. And mine came with the white middled machine, and that’s what I was under the impression it came with. I have two of the machines, one complete, original, and near perfect, and the more well loved one that this PN goes with. My Yellow and white PN lives at the vacuum museum with the matching tank that I did not have.

The canister part was made a good ten years before the power nozzle. The pictured canister was the model 88, launched in 1958 and made for Air-Way by the Eureka Company. In 1962, Air-Way brought manufacturing back to their own factory, and the two tone Model 88 cleaners were launched. The matching canister to the Eureka-built power nozzle should be the Model 88 Mark II, made in 1972.

Of that old HB upright power nozzle, Don Clark gave us some literature at a VCCC convention years ago and that pic was in it, it was a odd thing because it used a curved standard AirWay wand setup, the machine looks very much like a GE U4

I have that same photo. It's in all my air-way literature. I got when the old VCCC was still around. At the same Don Clark convention. They didn't use that HB upright long - probably only one year.

Don Clark said he switched to Eureka because they were so much easier to get, if I'm not mistaken HB moved manufacturing out of Racine and may even have quit making that machine, I sure would like to find one of the uprights, you know me always wanting something odd ball!..LOL

So is it common for the cord on the pn to be a regular wall plug as opposed to a 2 pin pn plug? If this is the common cord how would it have been connected to the Mark 2 canister? All the pictures I have seen of Mark 2s with the pn socket are more like standard 2 pin sockets so i would assume it would be two pin plug on the canister side and flat socket style on the pn side?

Both Hamilton Beach as well as Eureka, would fit a two pin miniature male prong cord about 3 feet long to the motor of the nozzle. The Hamilton Beach nozzle as well as the turquoise Eureka nozzle, joined this cord to a cord that ran along the hose, and plugged (mini connections) into the side of the Air-Way.

The gold color Eureka nozzle and Air-Way used an electric hose.

If I remember right on mine I want to say that from the tandam air Eureka power nozzle it is a regular wall plug and yes on the tank itself is a regular power nozzle 2 pin.

I have seen the photo you speak of and I had a question about it. I know it's black and white and hard to tell but isn't the tank in that photo with the HB also the 1958 version? It just doesn't look 2 tone or crinkle finish. Plz correct me if I am wrong.

I really with I could see a better pic of the wand set up and would like to know the color of the HB nozzle. I have one that is just the motor base and would like to make an Airway nozzle out of it. Maybe with your help I can.

I saw it in a junk store about 38 years ago and I remember thinking it was really strange design. It had toggle switch on the handle like a Hoover, no cord wraps and the carpet height adjustment was underneath the motor unit with a large slotted screw attached to the rear wheels.
