Okay, so this Amway is about an hour away from me, and I was wondering when it was from and how much I should offer. Any help is appreciated.

I have several family members with those vacuums and they are really good.

If that kind of vacuum is your thing, I'd say give it a try. You can likely get a pretty good deal on it.

I found one not long ago and have been reasonably happy with it. I think the suction (at leas that through the hose) is weak by today's standards, but somehow mine still managed to remove a bunch of hidden dirt from my carpet.

Expect to replace the foam filter and the "micron" paper filter in the filter tray. Both of these in mine were falling apart from age when I got it. Thankfully, those parts and more can still be had brand new from WMJ Remanufacturing.

Mine is from 1988, by the way. These units can actually be pretty old. The CMS 1000 was the first model.

That machine's design was stolen from James Dyson. Bissell built it for Scamway.
Mr. Dyson had not yet invented the "shroud", and extremely important piece to the puzzle, so the cyclones have a hard time with strings and lint. It's a good starter piece, very primitive and unfinished. But it had to start somewhere. The machine was an American 'copy' of the Cyclon 1000.

Question about the Cyclon 1000

I can see that the hose coming out of the top is the exit of the cyclone, and that the hose coming out of the pipe on the “passenger side” of the vacuum is the dirty air inlet to the system. What is the small “U” shaped hose for?
