almost first Hoover!

got an old Model 61 from a Kirby repair shop closing down in Plano, Tx. I'm unsure of the year....saw several that looked like this one and those wer 1948 models....any ideas from you Hoover nuts? Its got a broken part though....shown in pics....have a replacement...or so I thought...but its too tall and theres no 'cut out relief' for the lip on the screw from the fan....so, any ideas of where i can get one? I'd love to find an unbroken cover for this vac as well...perhaps off a non functioning one that no one is using? AM I correct to believe that this model uses type 'C' bags? ( would want to look for Hepa cloth versions if so). It appears to have an original type bag in super condition inside the torn and tattered outer cloth bag....I'd need a new one of those as well.

excellent machine there!

It was advertised as "The Finest Hoover cleaner Ever Built".
It was a brand new, post-war design.
People were waiting to be able to buy a Hoover cleaner again.

I'm not sure if it is the original, but the bag looks in great shape, you should be able to find a fabric repair/seamstress company that can sew those wear spots back together. It looks like yours was rebuilt or last serviced on July 9, 1969 - just a week before Apollo 11 went to the Moon!

Originally used the W or Handisac bag. They have not been made for about 40 years and are heavily sought after. With some coaxing a type C bag will work, or F&G eureka.

Are you sure the new belt pulley is too tall? It could simply be a weird design change. It may have enough clearance from the cover to work, not sure.

yeah, the height will cause it to rub/burn into the aluminum cover, plus, it doesn't have the 'relief' at the beginning of the the thread thats needed to fit it onto the fan screw

I bet that was a parts vacuum to cannibalize for that vacuum shop and when someone needed a replacement pulley they just pulled it off that one and chucked on some random oddball pulley.

none of you hoover nuts have leads/ideas of where to buy a replacement pulley screw to make this thing usable again?

Well you linked to one on eBay from Cornwall, United Kingdom already. The oldest model on that part number is their Hoover Senior 652 which is our Hoover Convertible 65 (I think). The models are not too far off, but I'd wonder if Hoover had it threaded in metric screw pattern as England uses, or if they used a universal thread for all countries.



I did find this lot of 4 Hoover pulleys - no model numbers or anything. You could buy this and gamble better odds with 4 pulleys to pick from that one might fit. The seller looks like a vintage and antique vacuum repairman so maybe he might be able to know for sure if you ask him your problem.

It's just weird there's virtually no parts for this vacuum to be found. Good luck!

Cut the top off a Sebo X-series bag and it’ll fit just about any full tube. I’d bet that it would work great in your Hoover.

Kelton, do you need 61 parts. I just broke down a 61. I have the motor and fan plus what's pictured. I'll let them go very cheap.
