I currently have a SoniClean which is dying and a Shark professional. Interested in buying a new vacuum.
I've owned a Kenmore (in 1988),a Kirby, Dyson,Sebo canister (didn't last long) and another Shark.
Our house has mostly carpet with some tile. We have 2 Bassett hounds and 3 cats.
We're looking for something reasonable, easy to buy, I don't want a home demonstration.
Thanks in advance!

I'm interested in superb suction, able to get dirt and hair out of carpet. Something that transitions to non carpeted area easily. Able to use attachments easily and quickly. Under $500 preferably.

I'm new here and although I'm not as experienced or knowledgeable as a lot of members here I'd ask why not consider a rebuilt Kirby? I see you've owned one before, what didn't you like about it?

Our current setup is 90% carpet and I went out and got the Miele C3 Soft Carpet model. The only thing I really like about the Miele is how quiet it runs. I got a used Sentria II and it cleans like no other vacuum I've ever owned or used. I've had Hoover Windtunnel, Dyson DC17, and most recently the Kirby and Miele. I don't think it's that difficult or time consuming to change to the tools on the Kirby and with the charcoal activated odor eliminating bags it is better than our other vacuums.

With that much carpet and pets I'd be looking at Kirby or something else with really high CFM numbers at the head to really deep clean my carpets.

I think the Miele uprights are easier to use when you need to transition from carpet cleaning to bare floor cleaning, compared to a Kirby. All you do is flip a switch on the handle to shut off the brush roll motor and you can safely move onto bare floors.

Check out the Shark APEX Zero-M if you're looking for a bagless unit. It's $329 a Bed Bath & Beyond right now.

I just purchased one and it works fantastic. Brush roll self cleans hair off itself and it's got HEPA filtration.

i agree with eurekaprince,

the Miele U1 upright is super convenient to use, transitioning from carpet to hardfloor....and to use the attachments.wish it had the deep cleaning ability though, not enough cfm.....many have tested it...attested to that fact. I like its quietness, just not the heaviness that it is...while using it. so much weight is on your arm/shoulder...unlike a 'heavy' canister or a Kirby even.

I have a Miele U1 Maverick and it deep cleans very well, I think it does at least as well as a Kirby. Plus it's easy to switch to attachments, has a long stretch hose that doesn't tip the vacuum over, and does excellent on bare floors, with the flip of one switch. Filtration is excellent (mine doesn't have a Hepa filter, just an allergen filter), it is on the heavier side though, with most of the weight on the handle. Retails for $449 and in my opinion worth it.

Hey

I would recommend a refurbished compact elecyra, silver bullet or red TriStar. The motor is bullet proof.
Then buy yourself a Wessell werk 360 power nozzle. It doesn't get hair caught. It's bullet proof like compact. You will have 12.5 amps of the best cleaning power combo that will deep clean better than any other vacuum. I can't knock simplicity or compact w compact power nozzle but compact is best vacuum and the Wessell werk is best power nozzle. You combine the two best and it's bagged system. Everyone reading knows I'm right.
