Interesting little artical on The Guardian. Aggie McKenzie of 'How Clean Is Your House?' testing vacuums.

I love her quote about the Dyson Cinnetic, but she's totally got the AirRam wrong about the brushroll turning as you push it - it's motorised.

Also, she cleans her stairs with a dustpan and brush? For a woman who's known for tackling the scientific end of cleaning, she's not putting much thought into the dust mites and grit in her stair carpet. Filth!

"Animal? It’s a blinking elephant! You wouldn’t need to go to the gym with this thing. What amuses me about Dyson is, whenever they bring out a new one, which is quite often, they say: “This one is the best Dyson ever.” It makes you think: “I bought the previous Dyson – now I’ve got an inferior model, have I?” This one’s big and scary and unnecessarily over-designed. The ball might seem like a clever idea, but it scores deep lines in the carpet. It really is an ugly bugger: very loud, very heavy. You wouldn’t thank anyone for it."

I saw that article and wondered what she was going on about the Airram. I didn't find mine hard to push as the brushes help to pull it along. I'm wondering if her sample was faulty.

Well, she's not exactly accurate about the Vax Cordless Air either. It does leave lovely grooming marks due to the velour strips on the sole plate.

"...I’ve never had a cordless vacuum cleaner before, but I think they’re the future. This isn’t a bad little number. It’s flimsier than the others but it’s simpler, and it’s the only one that doesn’t leave any kind of mark on the carpet..."

There is a SEBO. Did you miss it Seamus? The only thing they got wrong is right at the bottom it says "bagless." Oh and the SEBO Felix Pet is supposed to be a black model. Whoops.

Seems like there is no one in The Guardian who knows anything about actual vacuums to see this report go through.

There's a far older report from The Gadget Show with Kim. Shows off the *then new Electrolux commercial upright, which I very nearly bought oh so many years ago. A far more effective test, though admittedly longer video. Might no longer be available.

Aggie

It must be going back six or seven years now but there was a page of the then current Argos catalogue which showed all the 'Bush' vacuum cleaner's, and a caption saying something like 'Aggie McKenzie recommends Bush', although I'm sure she wouldn't after a few months!
