I finally got my grandparents Kirby G4 tonight! This is "The Kirby". The one that I grew up with, and one of the first vacuums I have ever used! My grandparents originally bought a Heritage 2 sometime in the 80's, and when my grandma found out that they had a Kirby that was self propelled, she gave the local dealer a call and threatened to make my grandpa's life Hell if he did not buy it. So this Kirby was purchased in 1994. My grandpa still regrets to this day buying this, because he said the Heritage was the best vacuum he had ever used, and misses it very much. I would like to find a new one to give to them for my grandpa to use.

I didn't have to do much work to this. The bag was very full and the belt was stretched out so those got replaced. The were also a few strings wound around the brushroll. It's not that they didn't take care of this, it just never got used because they live most of the year in Florida. All of the attachments are here, and just needed a wipe down. The shampooer has only been used once. The floor care kit in the picture was not originally purchased with this vacuum, that came from another G4 that I used to have, but I saved that as it is brand new. I am extremely glad to finally have this in my possession.

Wish My grandparents loved me that much. My grandmother bought us a new kirby in 1971 as her 519 needed repair after 15 yrs of acutal use and my playing with it from age 3. Sad part is we kept it at her house as we needed it there the most. Now it is at their retirement home. Grandparents are now gone, we still use it there as it is our weekend get away. Some day I will finally get to bring my baby home.

Now THAT'S a family heirloom!

Chase - CONGRATULATIONS on the G-4! One of my favorite vacuums.

I had to laugh when I read that this was the machine that you grew up with - I bought mine new back in the early nineties, and I was in my mid-20's at the time. I had forgotten "how long ago" this machine came out!

Also enjoyed reading that you had hung onto the floor care kit. So many times I think that we are all tempted to go through the collection and toss things that we really don't want to part with in case we need them later, but think that we should in order to make room. Your getting that G4 was obviously meant to be!

Truly, the G-4 was a great performing vacuum cleaner. I lent mine out on a permanent basis to an older aunt because of the TECH-DRIVE feature. The last time I saw it, it was looking a little worse for wear, and some of the attachments have strayed off somewhere. Makes you grit your teeth, BUT you can't expect EVERYONE to fully appreciate them.

Great news that a bag, a wipe-down and a new belt was all she needed. You will probably get many, many more years out of it. At least I hope that you do!
