Aerus Lux Classic

About a month ago, I purchased a brand new Aerus Lux Classic. I must say, I am very, very, impressed!
When I use it I reminisce about what it was like for my great grandmother to fire up her brand new Electrolux
Silverado in 1982 (after it was demonstrated of course

I love the look, the sound and the feel of this thing. It has a ton of power. I know some on here would
Critique that it lacks the modern enhancements of other newer vacuums, and that’s okay! Overall, I am glad this is still an option for those of us who are true to the old Lux’s.

I am also using the cloth HEPA bags in it that I bought on Amazon. I’m on bag 3 and no dust in the unit. There does appear to be some carbon in the after filter… but far less than I would have expected.

The only critique I have on this thing…. Why can’t Aerus sell the classic combo floor brush with these units?? The one that comes standard is cheap and has no airflow. I realize this is meant to be the economy line, but seriously, I think the floor brush is almost useless. There’s no air flow. Therefore, I have been using the floor brush from my Silverado with my classic!

Wow, it is amazing they still sell these and they are vastly unchanged other than color and logos. This looks just like the Electrolux LE I have.

Huskyvacs - Hardly unchanged?! You don't call changing the design from a double stage motor to a single stage motor a significant design change? I certainly would. And this is exactly the reason I ALWAYS suggest people buy a used Electrolux and put a new motor in, not a new Aerus.

They also changed the genuine paper bags as well. While I do like the blue color on them, they actually filter horribly.

Notice I said vastly, not hardly. Reading the context words are important. Furthermore I was talking about the appearance, not the entire technical deconstruction of the cleaner into every minute detail. Gotta love how people blow simple comments way out of proportion on this site - it makes bothering to reply to people's finds not worth it anymore.

Didn’t I see this model when I met you in Missouri back in 2019? I believe I did and I loved it! For it being such a basic cleaner, it still gets the job done with power and ease!

Aerus classic

These are great machines, I do wish they would have stayed with the two stage motor though. It doesn't have things like speed control but that's fine, less things to fail. It's a cleaner with a great design that has stood the test of time.

I write this because I recently purchased a near-mint Lux Classic from eBay, and although I admit it doesn't have the quality of the all-metal models, I'm still impressed and very happy with it.  So as not to hijack this thread, I'll start a new one after I take some images.

Someone purchasing and giving a stellar review of the product. While yes the motors are single stage clearly they are powerful. I’m happy with the Lux classic and Lux Legacy both of which were finds Goodwill and Habitat respectively so no doubt your brand new machine is even better!

I do find it annoying that the combination rug and floor tool is not included standard but it is an option they don’t mention and something I recommend asking to be substituted or “thrown in” to close the deal when negotiating the sale. It’s small beans for the dealer for those compared to losing commission on a sale. If I was purchasing…I would definitely ask for it and even keep the single sided one because it is lightweight and I can use that one for my walls/ceilings when I need to remove cobwebs or dust from walls or drapes. This way the bristles stay clean suitable for walls and drapes and the other can be used for the floors.

Did you get the sidekick? I know they aren’t included with these either. And if not and you want it you can find them on eBay relatively inexpensively and many have little use. It does a much better job than the turbo ones from other manufacturers since it is motorized and has the geared belt.

@jo - yes, I did get the sidekick, he threw that in with the purchase. I do, however wish i would have asked for a combo floor brush. I am going to reach out to the Aerus office I purchased at and see how much to buy a new one.

FYI - as we wind down January, I'll probably give my classic a break, and return to using my Rainbow's as my daily drivers. The air has been so dry lately, I have been running my srx and my e2 on low speed nonstop.

How do you like…

The rainbows in comparison to the Aerus? I had a chance to get one at Goodwill but it looked very cumbersome to use so I decided not to bother. I had a few friends who had them long ago and they did like them. To me they seemed quite unusual. I also came across a Filter Queen…but decided to leave that too. I know and like the Aerus Electrolux so well that I’ve decided to stick with what I know and like and also I can repair most all of them myself and have a collection of parts and want to keep my hobby under control so I’ve decided to limit myself but it’s always fun to try something different. Usually when I find something I MUST try or if it’s free and in good shape and not the Aerus/Electrolux I will get it…experience it and clean it up and give it away for someone in need…usually my niece!

Even though Aerus or Electrolux doesn't quite make these like they used to, I still would buy one for myself personally. But, I'd rather have a Clean Obsessed or a Perfect copy over this Lux.

I'm confused by your comment. If I recall the clean obsessed and perfect vacuums are cheaper to buy than the Aerus. Buying one of those might be better suited for your budget.

As for build quality - I don't know that Aerus has really compromised on the later machines. You still see variations of the lux classic running after 20 or 30 years. While I will forever in my heart love the metal machines, at least the plastic doesn't get dented and the scuffed all to pieces. As for the single stage motors. The suction is still really good and the longevity is still there.

Overall, Aerus still makes a good solid workhorse cleaner. I get the sense we are all grieving the nostalgia of the past days of Electrolux. I know I do, but I don't think there's been a real change in quality compared to the metal machines of the past.

Hi Matt, I apologies for your confusion. So just to clarify, yes the Perfect and Clean Obsessed are more affordable than the Lux Classic. That's one thing that I do like about them better. Also, I do like the bags and the motors better on both of them compare to the Lux Classic. The only thing that I like more about the Lux Classic is that it's assembled here in the US. However, not everything on the Lux Classic is American made. I've sold the Perfect vacuum when I was working at a local vacuum store and I'd say the quality is about the same as the Lux Classic. Overall, I still think the Lux Classic is a good vacuum. As I said before, I still would buy one for myself personally. But for anyone that is looking for a new vacuum and are looking at a Lux, I would first show them either the Perfect or the Clean Obsessed before I would show them an Aerus. Or if they are on a budget and they still want a Lux, then I would show them a used Electrolux or an Aerus that uses an old school two stage motor in it like this Aerus 5500 as I think they were one of the last best Lux canisters ever sold. The thing that I don't like about the one stage motor on the newer Aerus models other than the Guardian Platinum is that they are not serviceable. I definitely do agree with you on one thing, there are many of you out there that are still crazy for Electrolux and I totally respect that. If you came into my store and are dead set to buy an Aerus regardless it it's new or old, I would be more than happy to sell you one
