Aerus Guardian Platinum

So I got to try out the new Aerus Guardian Platinum today at the Kansas City Aerus dealers booth at the Kansas State Fair. Supposedly the unit I tried is a prototype they were demonstrating. It was awesome to see it in person. Very quiet! Especially on low w/ the variable speed control. They tell me that there are only going to be 500 of these made. I question that though. They retail for $2,000 & were selling at the fair for $1,500

ONLY 500? Sad, as I feel that would be the one they need more than ever. It's specs are almost unimaginable-quiet despite a motor with 505 air watts/116" water lift thru multiple filters. It's overpriced, which is Aerus' biggest problem. Maybe they will adopt many of it's features on the future machines. $1,500 would be reasonable for something with a power nozzle, motorized minibrush, combo floor tool, one year supply of bags, and a 15 year warranty. Or maybe $2,000 with your choice of FloorPro or air filter. They probably won't throw all that in though. Shame as I wanted one.

Those numbers are taken at the motor itself, not when in it's used in its actual application inside of the machine.

Yes, I'm aware of that. That is what is used as a "general" measure of strength for vacuums, though. If Miele can brag about it, so can Aerus.

Is this model made in the USA or is it an import?

It is a shame they have kept that bulky handle and the bulky wands. Many other manufacturers have telescopic wands with the hidden cord....why can't Aerus do the same? I really like the look of the machine but until they get rid of that bulky handle and those wands, it is off my list of vacs that I want. BTW, is that a metal neck on the power nozzle?

CountryGuy, the fault I have found with Aerus is the slender long body having an extreme tendency to fall on its side and slide along the carpet. I gently pull the machine, and what do you know, it acts like a dog and flips on its side. Only unlike my dog, I don't find this act cute!!!

One day in a vacuum shop I overheard a customer talking to one of the store associates. She said she said the neck to the power head on her recent Aerus has now broken a third time.
I use power head canisters all the time for the past 20+ years, never had a broken neck on a power nozzle. I've seen plenty start to wear and have play at the connection so it doesn't lock into the upright position as well, but never break.

I don't think that the average customer is as careful with their vacuums as we (collectors) are. I can see how the neck on the power nozzle can be easily broken, not only on Lux's but other power nozzles as well. Same goes for the handle. Instead of laying it down gently on the rug or floor, people will just drop it from 3-4 feet. I did that once by accident with the hose on my AP280 and even though the handle landed on the carpet, it still broke.

PS. I have an '89 and have also owned the 6500 and 9000 machines but have never had a problem with the vac tipping on its side.

This is the previous version of this machine made by lux, super quiet but not very user friendly at all.

The hose is a nightmare to use far to short for a machine of this length making it very difficult to move in smaller rooms

The pn while small is really effective,

My views on this machine are that its well made but not worth its extra high price. The motor is a standard dommell motor found in many standard cylinders.

This machine should retail for a little more than $ 1000.00 if that
