Went to use the platinum today and after about 10 minutes I thought it kinda smelled like something was burning but also kinda like a new motor smell, granted I haven't used this machine much since it was bought new in May of 2014. The smell got worse and when I would stop the power nozzle and start it back up again it was kinda slow and the lights flickered. Did it one other time and the PN was real slow and everything just shut off, now it won't do anything. However I know it's not the PN since I plugged it into my tristar and it was business as usual. I'm assuming something shorted out in the main unit.

There are no signs of burned connections to the naked eye in key areas like wands and both ends of the hose and the connection at the main unit. To the dealer it must go, I baby my machines and this thing has not a mark on it, so of course I'm dreading having some shit for brains mechanic touch it. Kinda disappointing that a machine with maybe two hours total is doing this.

Would be curious to see if this happened to anyone else, I'm sure if it has it would have been posted on here.

Yes, it happened to me on my first platinum son after I got it.. Mother board went bad. Aerus replaced it free, no questions asked. Take it back to your dealer.

Glad to know it happened to someone else on here, I figured I couldn't the only one. Just shocked since I hardly use it. To the dealer it goes.

How in the world

does a mother board fry so soon on such a relatively new vacuum? I don't get it.. I was contemplating on whether to buy this one or not.. but seems like it might have a little too many bells and whistles, good luck with your machine.

I don't even think of it as having many bells and whistles, regular +/- electronic speed controls and a auto function that many other cleaners use or have used with no issue. Guess that's what happens when aerus partners up with another firm instead of doing it in house. With a warranty as long as it has it's not really an issue. I had to have it so oh well.

Good point..

I didn't know their electronics were made by another company, I'm guessing that for me, it wouldn't be a good idea to buy this machine as preowned, since I literally would probably have no warranty to fix issues like this. You should be fine though, they probably have the one of the longest, if not the longest warranty available. I heard its something like 15 years on this one.

Yes it is 15 years, if you are in good standings with your dealer they will give good service long after the warranty is up

I've always held that anything that's made wrong (defective) will show up very quickly. With only two hours of use on it, the defect did in fact show up quickly. In the typical home, this is about two weeks worth of vacuuming - so it would have been taken care of immediately had it been sold to a non-collector. Circuit boards are funny in that they seem to either work forever, or fail right away. Glad Elux has the very long warranty. It takes onto a few minutes to open up a Platinum, and the circuit board is right on top. About a ten minute repair. I'd call and schedule the repair so the part is ready to go when you bring in the cleaner. That way, you could wait for it, and hopefully watch it being done so no scratches or scuffs.

Exactly, as with anything electronics, most defects in the electronic boards show up very soon.. Does no mean anything is wrong with the machine or brand. My aerus guy replaced it less than a half hour.

That's what I was leaning towards. My local aerus dealers are either inept or the one where I got the machine the mechanic is down right ignorant. Was thinking of sending it to Ray Saterwhite in VA. With the repair being so quick maybe I'll just do the watch and wait. Still love the brand though, just a minor hiccup along the way.

When cars started to be so computerized

And my Mom's new Grand Marquis quit on the way home from the dealer with eight miles on it.  The main computer went out.   They told her that a computer will fail on a car within the first 400 miles, or never.

Hopefully this was just a fluke failure, and I wouldn't think the brand itself is flawed.

@ctvacman

That 15+ years is definitely a good peace of mind. Does anybody have any experience dealing with Ray Saterwhite in Va? He seems to advertise the brand quite a bit on youtube, and seems like a decent guy to buy a machine from.

motherboards.

It's good that Aerus stands behind their products, but still, does a vacuum need a mother board? Pressure transducers? Just more to go wrong. Busy folks do not want to visit repair shops.

Yea I get a call yearly asking to come take a look at my vacs, I always decline. Aside from this motherboard issue I've never had a lux that needed repair aside from new brushrolls which I can do myself.
