Aerus Gaurdian VS Rainbow E2???????????????????

Hi,
I'm trying to decide what to purchase (save up for). Ive tried the E2 MANY times and I LOVE it, but I don't like the power nozzle, It is to light and the back flips up, and I don't think it cleans very well, What do you think of a TurboCat? And the Hepa
"neutralizer", the rainbow manual says to just rinse it but if non water soluble and evaporated particles go in it, how can you just rinse it?
I have tried the Aerus once, and I think its OK. The power nozzle and sidekick are WAYYYYYYYYYYYYYY to high-pitched and I don't like that the power nozzle doesn't shut off in the upright position. And there is NO way I would ever pay $60 for a Hepa filter EVERY SIX MONTHS! I do like the three speed motor, and the geared drive belt. What do you think is better? I would say the Aerus but I still prefer the E2.

I'm an Aerus fan so that's what I'd go with. The high pitched sound from the power nozzle is because of the geared belt. It's an side effect. I don't mind the sound too much but it could be irritating for some people. As far as the hepa filter you can get them cheaper on ebay.

As far as the Rainbow I have not tried one. All I can say is that I would not buy a canister vacuum if it's power nozzle bothered me. The power nozzle is far too important.

Really it's up to you.

Firstly, I think both vacuums are too high priced! I only stick to the older vacuums, but the few new vacuums I do like...or the only one for that matter, is an Air-Way!

I am SURE Charlie can agree with me on this one! ;-)

Secondly, if the non-water-soluble dirt sticks to the filter, it doesn't mean it is permanent. Thus, water would wash it off. That also doesn't mean it would still stick to the water; it doesn't have to.

Now...with personal experience with Rainbows (D "chrome dome"), I have found the water filtering power to be ineffective. Just to test this theory, I made my own filter, put it on the exhaust, and found that a lot of the dust still came out. Now, that could've been carbon dust, but I still think the older ones are ineffective.

And another point about Rainbows...if they say the water filtration is so good, why need a HEPA? Anyways...just my $.02!

And about the Aerus...why not just invest in an older Lux, like a G? There is one on eBay right this second; two to be exact! Less expensive...better power nozzle (IMHO)...great filtration, great suction...what's better than that?

Alrighty, enough said! It's up to you, really. I would personally go with whatever is less expensive as money is an issue for me. Let me know what you end up choosing!

I used to have an Aerus-Lux Guardian-hated the thing-it was NOISEY!Not the powernozzle-but the canister-sounds like you were trying to vacuum with a B-52 jet engine in the room.Many others out there-yes including VINTAGE 'Lux machines-much better and cheaper.
On Rainbows-I remeber a dramatic and effective demo done by a Kirby Salesman-at the time he was demo'ing a Kirby G4 to me.At the start of this demo he brought in a Rainbow D3 and set it aside.He started with the Kirby.then he got to the Rainbow.He asked-"May we go out on your back porch for a few minutes-want to show you something about filtration of our competitor's vacuum".He had me fill the Rainbow's water contaner and put it on the machine-next he vacuumed talcuum powder with the Rainbow-a white dust cloud erupted from the machine-He then flat out said-"You wouldn't want to try to clean your home with this machine would you?"Then we tried the Kirby with the Talc-no problem-no clouds.the inside of The Kirby cloth bag was clean.It does show that water only filters materials that are water soluble or wettable.Many types of debris are not water wettable or soluble.In the Rainbow instruction book they have a warning not to use the Rainbow to pick up flour,fireplace or woodstove ash,and plaster or drywall dust.these would pass thru the watertrap filter and clog the HEPA after filter.-Or on Rainbows without the fliter they would pass thru and blow out into the area the Rainbow is in as the Kirby fellow showed me.Then he says-"We get more Rainbow trade ins after this demo!"He used a Rainbow trade in for the test.I also don't like the Rainbow powernozzle-Hooked an older TriStar "Turbo-Nozzle" to my E2 and lots more stuff was picked up!The present Rainbow powernozzle is outdated.They should redesign it or replace it.My E2 does work well-but like others better-do use it on occasion just for sport.

Obviously im not an expert...

But $60/£30 every 6 months for a Hepa filter sounds like a rip off- if the bag and pre filter are any good theres no way it should need replacing that often IMHO.

The Miele hepa needs replacing once a year and retails over here for £20/$40- still not cheap but not as unreasonable!

i would reccommed going with an older lux too! I love canisters but i love the cleaning power of a Hoover concept one/two so i rigged my electrolux model "L" to a quadriflex powerhead! I sell them inmy store for a used vacuum! Actually i just sold one last night for 60.00 with a 6 month warranty and 2 tune ups. You shold consider that because i know you love your hoover concept one.

I would reccommend a Miele! You should take one from your store because you said you have over 8 models! so i would go with that! Those are like the best canister!

Oh, yeah! I forgot the German vacuums! That would be a good choice, too! But, whatever floats the boat...or sucks up the dirt!

Lux Canister

I think that the Guardian is a nice machine but it is heavy and hard to steer around. Its also loud and the suction is not nearly what it should be when compared to a Miele that costs just as much. I like the Lux power nozzle but I think that the high pitched noise is something you just get used to. If you are a huge Lux fan, its almost a comforting sound. The Miele is an excellent vacuum in the same price range and I have heard the Air-Way is excellent also. I think the Lux 6500 or whatever they call it now cleans better than the Guardian, it just seems to have more suction even though they have the same motor. If you want a light weight Lux that cleans well I suggest buying an Epic 6000 off eBay. The 6000 has the older style wands, much nicer than those bulky plastic things. The pistol grip handle is much easier to dust with than the gas pump style plastic one. You may want to consider putting central vacuum in your house. If you install it yourself it would probably cost about the same as buying a new Guardian and you would have much more power than any portable machine. Plus, if you buy a unit thats bagless and filter-less like a VacuFlo, you will never have to put anymore money into the machine.

I HATE bagless cental vacuum systems-Cough-Choke-choke when you have to empty them.My Mom used to have a bagless NuTone unit.In a home she previously had-she had a bagged Black&Decker central unit-was so much cleaner and easier to dump.No clouds of dirt and dust!I don't like central systems-they are very inefficient when the main unit is coupled to all of that plumbing which can clog-and wall connectors that leak air-IE its hose coupler lid doesn't close or seal if the hose isn't being used there.also the long hoses are more cumbersome than portable vacuums.I have used both the NuTone and B&D units-find them awkward.

We used to...

... have a Beam central with a butler power team ( made by eureka) we never used it, and ended up removing it when we remodeled our game room. And thanks everyone, I am choosing a Rainbow E2, I like the air purification mode and the rinsable hepa
cartridge.

I would say the Air-Way Signature Series is one of the best buys if you want a vacuum that will last a lifetime. The bags and filters are rather inexpensive. The vacuum is hand built and all metal. The power nozzle is superb. AND, the price is about 1/2 of the Aerus and almost 1/4 of the Rainbow.

The customers that have purchased them from me, (and other Air-Way dealers I'm sure), absolutely love them.
