Aerus Electrolux Guardian Vacuum....

Well.....I started my new job at Aerus working the sales circut so we will have to see how that goes. If anyone needs bag, belts or other supplies let me know and I will get them for you at a nice discount. The other salesman seems to only work the database and even then only selects people who have purchased items since 2000. I am going to have to go another direction and start doiong door to door or at least using the database to find older customers who purchased there machines in the 80's or 90's. Anywho, I was issued a guardian vacuum to try and use as a sales demo and well........I'm not quite sure how I feel about it. Its a very nice machine and runs great. A little louder then other electroluxs I've used but not so loud that it would be a bother or that you couldn't watch tv or listen to the radio as you cleaned. The powernozzle works great and the onboard attachments are very nice and the hepa filter really makes a difference. I just don't know if I feel like they are worth the $2199 asking price. On the demo DVD I recieved they show how to use test cloths to show how much dirt is being pulled out of the customers carpets. I tried this and had next to nothing come out of mine (I guess my diamond edition kirby does work really well after all). I'm thinking I might just try to sell the next model down "the legacy" as it is almost a grand cheaper and still has the nice powernozzle and sidekick you just don't get the hepa filter like the guardian and you have to turn the vacuum on and off and change suction levels on the vacuum itself instead of just having everything on the handle which is nice. Any members out there who can tell me what you think of your Guardian and how much you paid for and if you really love it. Same goes for Legacy owners. Thanks

I had a Lux 9000 which is similiar to the Guardian and I was not impressed with it. As you say, it is loud and it is tough to maneuver in tight spots. If you are just going to be vacuuming carpet or floors it is OK but if you are doing any above the floor cleaning then the large handle is very cumbersome and makes the arm get tired after using it for awhile.

Honestly, I wasn't overally impressed. Nice, well thoughtout vacuum, but weak suction and the P/N could be tons better. I love the handle controls, but even then, they start going bad. Mine is a little over a year old. I use it on a very rare ocassion. Hope this helps

Aerus Electrolux Guardian Vacuum

I bought the Electrolux Epic 8000 which is very similar. I purchased mine from an "old time Electrolux" salesman. I like mine very much and it is very easy to use. I still use the combo rug/floor tool. Mine does not seem that loud. I was glad to be able to buy it while it was still Electrolux. I think mine was about $1200.00 but that was back in 1998.
I did purchase an extra hose.I do like the looks with the rounded front and name on the side like the old model XXX.

$2199 ASKING PRICE?!

Wow, they sure have gone up! The last time I priced one, five years or so ago, it was $1499.

And there's an interesting situation there: Just out of curiosity, I had called a local Aerus dealer in Hollywood (who apparently works out of his home as he does not have a branch location or store) and he quoted me a price for a new Guardian at $2000.

A few days later I happened to be talking to an Electrolux veteran (been with the company since 1958 and is still going strong!). I mentioned to him I was shocked that a new Electrolux now costs $2000.

He told me that the current price for the Guardian (again, this is 5-6 years ago) is $1490. According to him, factory-authorized retail prices for new Electroluxes are set by the company, and are the same across the entire United States He said if an Aerus dealer tries to sell a machine to you for more than that amount, then you should call the Aerus headquarters and report him.

He said that price-gouging is in direct violation of company policy. Again, prices for Aerus products are the same across the nation and, by company policy, machines cannot be sold for more, or for less, for that matter. Aerus reps will be terminated for doing so, if they get caught.

I'll have to look into that. I guess if I called the company and asked what a Guardian should sell for they would be able to tell me. But I will look into that all the same cause I thought that was a little high.

An 75th Anniversary Electrolux Guardian (before Aerus) was one of my most loathed vacuums and I sent it off into the sunset via ebay last year. Main issue - the motor droned at such a frequency that I could feel the harmonic vibration in my teeth. If you wondered if I am nuts before, now you know.

Seriously, I couldn't stand to use it. Not only the frequency issue, but the heavy-as-a-firehose hose, the plastic wands that become loose with use, the only average power nozzle, and the @!#$%^& filter on the top that would lose a retaining clip when you bumped it. Down to one clip by the time I sold the machine, it would lift up with air pressure when the machine was turned on.

Somehow the Renaissance is a much better machine and I enjoy using it - much quieter, sleeker looking. I can overlook its faults easier than the Guardian.

It is unfortunate that Aerus has set the price at $2100. The machine is worth just a fraction of that. The TOL Miele can be had for just over half that amount.

John, glad to hear your imput on Aerus/lux. I have wanted to ask you about the lux upright. I noticed you had one in your computer room when we were at your house with Charles and the
gang in Jan. Does it have good suction on the hose end? As I have
one of the older uprights and the suction is so poor. Really
like it but not good with the hose. How is the general performance of the blue and white upright with the on board hose and tools?

Hey Norm

The Lux 4000 is a very good machine for everyday use. I alternate between it and the Sebo Felix and if I had to pick a favorite, the Lux might beat the Sebo by one point.

Unlike the older Electrolux uprights, the 4000 has a powerful suction motor. I don't remember the exact inches of water lift for the machine, but it is in the neighborhood of 70", very good for an upright, and in conjunction with good airflow, it cleans and grooms the carpet quite well.

This style upright is a classic design like the Convertible is a classic design for Hoover. I hope the Aerus keeps it alive.

Electrolux Upright

The Aerus classic upright has right around 80". However, it has a filter mounted in the front. The new Guardian upright has the hepa filter on the side, therefore, they had put the older style motor back in the machine again and the suction will now drop back down to 60". Alot of the older electrolux uprights had 60" and then sometime around 4 or 5 years ago they switched to the classic style motor which gave you an additional 20". If you can find a Aerus Classic upright I would get it now.

I used to have an Aerus electrolux Guardian vacuum and HATED it-the thing sounded like you were vacuuming with a B-52 engine revving in the room-have they quieted the current ones down any?this would have been about 3 yrs ago.Sold the machine.I like the Meiles,Sebo,Air Way,Tri Star, vacuums MUCH better.and I like the OLDER electroluxes better.I think Aerus Electrolux should scrap the current designs and go back with what worked.And bring back the metal!I think I paid under $1500 for mine.it also had the "Sidekick" powered hand tool.Oh yes-sometimes while running the Guardian the filter on top popped off.Very annoying.
