I've had a Miele Revolution 700 for the past 10 years and it's time for a replacement, I think.
The first problem is that there's now a problem with the electronic speed control in the hose handle, so that if the hose flexes too much while you're cleaning, the machine goes back to standby mode and you have to adjust the speed to get it to restart. It's a real pain when you're working in a confined area, such as cleaning the stairs.
The real problem is that a while back I managed to vacuum up something that jammed the door to the Hyclean bag shut so unbeknownst to me while I was vacuuming the dirty air was flowing around the bag rather than through it. Despite the motor protection filter, I think the motor's damaged - it's nowhere near as powerful as it used to be.
So, I'm looking for recommendations for a new cylinder vacuum. It must be bagged and have a HEPA filter (I don't have allergies but I figure you might as well trap as much dust as you can). I don't want fancy remote controls and I've only hard floors so I don't need a turbo/power brush. I also don't want a parquet floor head - I have one on the Miele and all the fluff sticks to the extra-thick bristles instead of getting sucked up. I also need a small brush attachment for carpets and the stairs and such.
Ideally I'd like to spend less than £200 but would maybe stretch to £250 if I needed to. So far, I'm considering one of the more basic AEG UltraOnes (or an Ultrasilencer if anywhere is selling them) or another Miele (probably a compact one). I also wondered about the Sebo D2 (I seem to recall the K1 models don't have a small brush as standard, and I think the system of connecting the small nozzle using the crevice tool is nuts) or a Nilfisk, but I've heard horror stories about their durability and no-one seems to stock them either.
Does anyone have any suggestions or advice?
Thanks
Matt
