Bagintheback

The Powerplus range was introduced in 1984 - this model and a cheaper one with conventional disposable bag. It was the final variant of what you knew as the Convertable. It ran at least until 1986 and possibly 1987 - i suspect that it woudl have been phased out around the same time as the Junior - both designs having been around since the late 1950s in one form and another. It was replaced by the Turbomaster range

The 417 was first introduced in here 1953, this is a 1970 model - in its 6th and final colour scheme. After the Connie came along this model was down graded to a budget model and was hadrly ever featured in any marketing from around 1960 apart from brochures. It is quite quiet and at 550watts the suction was not bad either

Sadly it does not have its original hose or tools (the wands are good though) but at least the hose is designed to fit it. 550watts again and also very quiet - I have wanted to get one of these for a while, although i have seen 4 or 5 of them over the years.

Thats all the photos I could get done last night but I am not done with them yet, keep watching this space :)

You have been on a roll Al!

Congratulations on all the new acquisitions, particularly re the Powerplus and the Galaxy!

Saw one or two of these when they were on 'the bay', saved pictures and have dropped them into my 'unidentified folders'.

If the cleaners are still to hand, could you do me a bit of a favour and let me know the model numbers of your two compacts, galaxy and the white sensotronic?

Glad that finally there is a Galaxy out there!

Sensotronic voice model

Yay, a Sensotronic!
I loved them, fantastic cleaners and the contours are so sleek. We had them here as well / in different colours. The top model was midnight blue and had lots of LEDs on it. It could talk! "please check bag" or "check nozzle for obstuction" and stuff like that. Somehow you could even choose different voices, very much like on current GPS navigation units.

Can you tell more about that? I am not a Hoover expert, just happen to like them.

Hey Alistair,

How are you ? hope your well. Great additions and great pictures, you have a brilliant collection, really like both of your Compacts and I have a real soft spot for the Galaxy and Sensotronic just love the styling and this time in Hoover Europe's history.

I pick up a very odd white Sensotronic TC Tropic about 18 months ago it must have been some sort of promo model ? anyone have any ideas the story behind this one ? Also just got a series 1 Sensotronic System 1 in red, needs a bit of work, so now I just missing the System 4 to complete series 1.

Cheers
Mark

Hey Al, some fabulous new additions there! Glad you got the Powerplus, very handsome colourway on it, how low is the serial number? The standard Pp are rare enough as it is! Can't help but wonder if it was influenced by a Mr Dyson when he was submitting his design to the big name manufacturers! Looks like it must be terribly messy to empty, though!

Well done with the 419G too, it's good you've got the last of the line - I think they're a bit of a Cinderella model, hardly publicised but actually a very competent little machine, I love mine!

The rest are great finds too, of course!
