Well I have no idea if there's any plug-n-play part, maybe someone around here does?

But otherwise, if you're willing and able, you could do just about any modification you want. But you know, you might have to fabricate parts. It's a shame nobody on the web seems to have a picture of the actual part number you found. Kinda hard to tell when you don't know how it looks.

Hood fabrication?

Thanks for the feedback! I can manage a screwdriver, but custom fabrication is a stretch for me. I may be better off finding a used model with the features I want.

Michael,

A good idea, for sure. All my three Royal metal uprights have a light on them.

My recommendations for Royal metal uprights with the headlight are:
880
886 or 887 (light blue trim)
992 or 993 (magnum blue trim)
994 or 995 (like 992/993, but with 7 amp motor)
996 (like 994/995, but also with brush speed indicator light on nozzle)

Hey

I believe you could drill a fourth inch hole in top center of motor housing directly paralell to light being placed run into motor housing.
The only ploblem is extra amperage on mode and coil so don't do it if it could go wrong it will.

UR38200 = no headlight

broomvac, good research! Unfortunately, the UR38200 may no longer include a headlight - see link below - and honestly the new stock is out of my price range. Still, hopefully this will help others looking for the same thing. Be sure to contact your supplier to make sure you're getting a headlight if that's important to you!

This does come as a surprise to me. My grandfather bought one which looked like the one in the link and it came with a headlight, but this was 10-12 years ago and it may have been an 8300.

I hope this doesn't come off as rubbing salt in the wound, but I would actually be pleased if, in fact, Royal is now offering a household vacuum with no headlight. I once had a Royal with a headlight (880) and I always wished it didn't. I would have gotten rid of the light if I could have without leaving behind ugly holes, because I think the vacs with the adjust-o-rite cover look much better without the headlight! To each his own. :)

Contacting Royal directly may be another way to figure this out. Even if they have discontinued this feature, perhaps they would have at least one NOS unit which you or your local dealer could obtain.

Good luck!

There are many used Royal Vacuums with headlights in new or slightly used but in like new condition on ebay. I would keep checking ebay until you find one that fis your needs.

Royals, like Kirby are solidly built and even a used one in good condition will last many years.

Pulled the trigger on a CR5128Z!

You guys are great! I really appreciate the eBay links - that MRY8200 is going to be a heck of a deal for someone. I pulled the trigger on a CR5128Z to get screw height adjustment and 10A of cleaning power, but it took a day to decide which to get. Looking forward to joining the Royal family, heh.

Hey

With that motor vibration alone would rattle it loose in no time. It's similar to the 1030z I had. Stay away from rugs with ruffled ends. You will blend the rug straight to the bag.

FYI:

I own a 10 amp Royal 8300 and there is almost no noticeable vibration when it is running. It is somewhat loud, but it is also very smooth.
