I think it's safe to say that Electrolux USA "began" separating from Electrolux of Sweden earlier due to the fact that Electrolux USA began R&D in addition to the manufacturing. Subsidiaries often make products unique to that market. It would appear that Electrolux AB gave Electrolux USA a great deal of freedom since the machines differed markedly by the 1930's. When the U.S. government took over the plant in 1941 they owned it for 4 years but I'm not sure what happened to it after the war. By the 1950's , Electrolux USA had become legendary.

Yes, Sauber is the brand name it's sold under in Australia. I'd imagine it has to do with trademarks. Electrolux USA sold vacuums in Europe under another name too! And as mentioned, Lux International today controls the Eureka name in other countries! It's enough to spin one's head.

Here's a good link from which I gleaned most of my info about Lux:

I'll have to comment about Mike81's post. I also live in Finland and own an Electrolux D750 Royal from 1990. And it's not Lux branded. So I think that the Lux branding was introduced in Finland much later than 1988. There's a famous tv documentary about Hedengren salesmen called "Pölynimurikauppiaat" (Vacuum salesmen) from 1993 and they also sell "Electroluxin siivouslaitteita " (Electrolux cleaning equipment), the vacuum cleaner seen on the documentary was D775. So, I think that in Finland the Lux brand was intruduced with the D790 model ca 1994. There's also a press release from the Electrulux group that states that the door-to-door division was sold to Lux International in 1999. BTW there's not much difference between Electrolux Royal D750 and Lux D790. The chassis is the same, the coloud is different and D790 has improved electronics. The hepa filter containter that comes with D790 also fits D750. (I own the both models and was able to buy a hepa filter container for D750 also because it originally lacked it when my grandmother bought the machine back in 1990.)

This seemed to be a good thread to post Electrolux Group's Z62 German ad. It translates as: "The new Model Z62 remains a Great Product" "even stronger; even more gentle" "even more handy"
