A few years back i had a charcoal grey Epic 3500SR upright. It was a simple but very effective vacuum. Eventually when i was downsizing before i moved i ended up selling it to a friend of mine who i felt needed something easy to use. Since then i've been wanting to get another lux upright to fill the space left behind. Today i finally found one to replace it, yet another Epic 3500SR. I think i did overpay a little for it ($150) but it's still better than paying $399 (which the local Electrolux store wanted for one) This one has a 75th anniversary sticker on it and i even got the tools! which my last one never had.
According to the Service sticker it was at one time in Nebraska. I always think it's cool to find out where it came from. The sale date is 4-03-00. I gave it a quick wipe but it still needs a more detailed cleaning and the bag gasket needs repair i can feel an air leak by the hinges

Nice find, I like the Epic. I don't like the ones with the on board hose. I like the fact that you have the sidekick option. I think Lux was first to offer a mini PN for an upright.

Congrats!

I think you found a really great vacuum, and I don't think you overpaid for it at all. That's not a bad price - those machines last forever. Yours looks like it's in great shape. Any scuffs it might have will come off with Kirby Lickity Split cleaner or some equivalent. You can install the after-filter on the side of the machine, replace the pre-motor filter at the base of the bag compartment, and buy Lux's newer upgraded brush roll, and that machine will be perfect. The 75th Anniversary Edition is collectible, so hang on to it. Congrats again on a fantastic vacuum!

Thanks guys!

Probably you don't see too many uprights with an electrically powered tool i'm glad they did it though having pets the sidekick is a wonderful tool to have!

Thanks for the information too my old grey one had a thinner filter on the exhaust i was wondering if i could install one so that's great to know.

After Filter

You can install one. You need the 2-piece kit to do it, and this consists of a replacable filter and a permanent mounting bracket that has adhesive to attach it to the side of the vacuum around the exhaust. Then the filter snaps onto the bracket. The after filters were introduced with the grey model. Your color is Oyster/Fog, and, at the time, Electrolux made kits and fiters that matched the color. You might want to make an effort to find a matching one, but any color will at give you the functionality of the exhaust filter. After the bracket is mounted, you have to buy only replacement filters.

Found one

I went through around 700 ebay listings in hopes of finding an afterfilter kit that would match your Epic 3500SR. I found only one full kit. It's genuine Electrolux, but it's not the correct color; it's light blue, which matches the version that came right after yours. It'll fit, and you can get replacement filters in the lighter color. So if you want it, here's the link.
