Another shot

These were basically a Regina broom with a half sized bag, omitted handle stick and the front faceplate was replaced by a handle assembly. When fully tuned up these have pretty strong suction.

OMG, I remember a lady who had one of these, but I had totally forgotten about it until seeing these photos. I actually saw her use it once, sweeping her vinyl sofas on her jalousie-window-enclosed rear porch. I seem to recall it was kinda noisy, making a high-pitched whine.

Actually this is the second one I just picked up from Watertown City Mission thrift store. I walked in the first room which has a free section shelf and saw a Regina upholstery tool that went to these Broomette hand vacs. I thought good, now I will have the proper tool for my one original Broomette. Well upon walking around in the store over by the small appliances there sat this very nice condition example which I quickly snapped up for a mere $3.00 in perfect working order. I little grease in the fan end bearing and cleaning out the back of the fan it'self and she was running as new. This machine is dated 1979 and they only seem to be showing up until 1981-1982 catalogs so this must have had a very short run. Just to be different I will shortly post some pics of more of my hand vac collection including my 1970's avacado green steel body Metros, a few Royal Princes and a plethora of other oddballs I have collected over the years.

I think it's really cool that someone collects Regina ElectricBrooms. I remember seeing many of them when growing up but never paid a whole lot of attention to them. Have you ever figured exactly how many different models there were?! Hundreds probably!!

The one I remember the best must have been a fairly old model. The motor housing was black bakelite and the long pleated cloth bag was dark maroon. I only remember it well because I saw it so many times.

The lady who owned it had a set of stairs going down to a basement in her kitchen behind a closet-type door. There was a lot of stuff lining the stairs resting against the stairwell or hanging from hooks -- cleaning solutions, dust mops, bucket, feather dusters, rags, a yellow Shetland floor polisher, and the Regina.

I never saw her use it, but every time we would go to her house I'd run back there and open that basement door to look at the Regina and the polisher. I did ask once if I could run it in the kitchen for her and she said no. "Bee-aatch!"

The link is to a neat old toy catalog with a toy Regina in it. It's a PDF file, about 7mb, so it will take a couple of minutes to download.

Old toy Regina

Wow that toy broom is really neat. They made such nice things back then with pride.

The Broomette was straight suction only for it's limited run. In the late 80's Regina came back out with another variation on the hand vac in the form of the Dirt Magnet which did have a belt driven power brush. I'll include that in my upcoming pictures of hand vacs.

oops - forgot to mention - the 70CE is from 1965-67

this is the Iona 3 Speed Electrikbroomette Model: MEB 1003 Style: M83 from 1980 (I have an extra of this one somewhere but no parts for it if anyone wants it)

Re: link to toy broom

Thanks for the link to the toy broom Charles. I have seen that on before or possibly one just like it. I would buy it buy finances are tight at the momment. I'll keep an eye out and see if it pops up again next month.

Collector2- I used to have one just like that when I was a young lad but stupidly sold it in a garage sale for $5.00 because it had a slightly out of balance fan and was noisy. So wish I kept it. There was a NIB 70CE last year on Ebay that went for a pretty penny that I also wish I could have purchased but alas the NIB 1976 Regina one speed Electrikbroom was purchased instead that I still have in my collection now. The Iona looks just like my Broomette save a different bag. What year is that from?

Hey Joel:

The Broomette is 1980. If I remember correctly you collect the electric brooms dont you? Can you send me an email - [email protected]. I have some that I'm going to be getting rid of - if you want any parts off them (or them for that matter) you can have them for the shipping cost. Ill send pics when you email.
