A variation of the Electrolux 1205

Very nice indeed. Perhaps Miss Pupek swooped down upon it and bought it? Who knows.

In any event, the electric hose and electric wand were not in the original box. The standard hose was swapped out for the electric hose (for an additional cost), and the telescopic wand was included with the power nozzle in a separate box. So there must have been a power nozzle at some time. The halo is missing to wind the cord upon too. Maybe a salesman had this and his widow is now selling it?

Nice bit of unused history right there.

Photos finally!

I finally had a 'snow day' today (down here in Carolina, it only takes about three flakes to paralyze the city and trigger a panic run at the grocery store) and that gave me a little unexpected time to take some photos of my 1205, reunited with its original teal hose for the first time in more than two years. My cat couldn't help but get in a couple of them. Based on previous posts, this is most likely a 1969 model with the bright teal face on the bag door and the early pistol grip on the electrified hose (note the teal cable tie holding the back end of it together where it's cracked.

I now have three hoses for this machine. I've been using it with a later white cloth hose for the past couple of years, but last week I picked up an even newer gray plastic hose on the cheap. The metal tip of the nozzle was all bent up to the point that it wouldn't accept any attachments (thus the cheap price) but I had a spare white nozzle just like it, so I took the best bits of both nozzles, repaired the hose and now have a two-tone nozzle. It's ugly, some might even say "bojack" (a word I'd never encountered before I found this forum) but it is functional and that's what counts.

Awesome '60s cleaners, Tom and Edgar--thanks for posting your photos.

Tom, I had actually hoped that you would have been the winner of the eBay auction I'd mentioned. That cleaner would have been a great addition to the museum. Regarding your '68 Model L ... wouldn't it have originally had the power nozzle with the ivory wand and electric, pigtail-connect hose? Btw, I'd forgotten that the Ls retained the pigtail connection after the standard cleaners had gone to the direct connection--thanks for the correction. Don't mean to 'tion' you--haha

Edgar, is that the cat that you'd mentioned in another thread does not like vacuum cleaners--or am I recalling someone else? Anyway, good job on making your hose functional. I don't mind doing that type of thing with newer parts, either; it's easier on the wallet.

Ronni,

Yeah, I had posted about the cat being terrified of the vacuum cleaner but that cat, Havoc, died in 2011 and I got Lily, the cat in the picture, three weeks later. Havoc would hide until at least an hour or two after I had put the vacuum away. Lily will bolt initially but then come back to see what all the noise is about.

I've always enjoyed making something good and serviceable from otherwise scrap parts. I guess it started with the '68 Volkswagen I rebuilt when I was in high school. Saving money is only part of the overall satisfaction equation.

And now for your viewing pleasure, here is a pic of the two-tone "Frankenhose":

Yeah, I get your satisfaction about making things serviceable with replacement parts, Edgar. That hose doesn't look like "Frank" to me--great job!

Glad to hear that Lily isn't doesn't have as severe a case of "vacuphobia" as Havoc. :)
