A Tradition Tragedy (WHY?!?!?!?)

How many times has this happened to you? Anyway, but i saw a Trad and a Heritage, alongside a Classic III at a local thrift store. Well, anyone on here who knows me should know that the tradition is my favorite vacuum of all time. It cost $40, so i decided to think about it until monday. (this thrift store is closed on sundays.) I didnt get around to doing it on monday, so i went today. Guess what> IT WAS GONE!!!! (i almost cried) The CIII and Heritage were still there, but no tradition! I scoured the store and opened every "employees only" door, but no trad. This always happens to me! Why couldnt have they bought the CIII or the heritage, but noooo, it had to be the tradition! Like i said, this always happens to me. I see an old vacuum, (or a vacuum that i like, for that matter), i come back to get it the next day, but its gone, but all of the other vacuums are still there! How many times has this happened to you?

Ok so I walked into my local Used Vacuum Store, and I saw a used Oreck XL for 150 $ (Good Deal For the Price Of an Oreck Right) So was going to buy it, but I didn't have enough Money. So the next day I came with 200 Bucks, and the Oreck was gone I Asked the Employee If anyone bought or it's just in a backroom so unfortunently somebody bought it before me. Kind've a shame because I really like Orecks, and Never had one, and that was a perfect chance to get a kinda cheap Oreck.

Some advice on orecks: I went through an oreck phase for about a month. I did a rigorous vacuum battle and realized my oreck wasnt exactly the greatest cleaner. Exept, mine is an XL2600, from 1999-2000. I wouldnt suggest buying an oreck for anything more than $50 unless it is an XL21, or a Platinum.

I usually don't have the problem of tire-kicking, leaving the store, and coming back later to see about actually buying it. Typically I buy vacs so cheaply that to take or leave one is a no-brainer. I either buy it right then or I'm not gonna buy it under any condition.

Just today, I was in a thrift store and when they wheeled out fresh bins, many vacs could be seen. I saw a Kirby handle sticking up so I went over to that bin and it was a Tradition. It was pretty nasty; the aluminum was highly corroded all over, bag was nasty, it was just very neglected and used for decades without any thought having been given to a bit of maintenance. Some people are like that with cars; they drive them and only add gasoline and wonder why they don't last long. These are the people who never finish paying off a car before it's dead and gone. When people do this to a Kirby, it can last decades but the new China-vacs won't take that amount of neglect/abuse. That's why I get two, three, four year old vacs with a broken belt and a sticky bearing, that's it. Nothing else wrong with them. It seems ridiculous, but people can't even change a belt anymore. They know how to fight off all the electronic zombies on their video games but don't know how to open the hood of their car.

I can hear the conversation in the home now. "Martha, (that would be Madison now), the vacuum won't suck up dirt anymore." to which the response is, "Oh John, (that would be Taylor these days), we're going to Walmart on Saturday so we'll buy a new one."

But maybe it wasn't meant to be. Because you didn't get that vacuum, that means you will find an even better one at a better price.

i have had same problem at estate/garage sales. i have learned if your thinking about it pick it up and carry it with you or it will be gone when you go back for it.
last week i picked up a cool pitcher that had pics of all the presidents up to JFK
and some lady followed me around telling me why she had to have it for some famous writer friend of her, i bought it out of spite, it was $5.00. see link

Yep. "You Snooze, You Lose" is exactly right. If you walk away and come back later, you can be SURE the item you were looking at will be gone -- whether it be at a thrift shop or yard sale. If it's something you really want, then you'd better go ahead and get it if you don't want to be crying later. ;P

I'm still kicking myself about that Mixmaster Model 12-C (chrome) I saw in a used BOOKSTORE for $18. I decided to go home and eat lunch and think about it. You guessed it - GONE. I saw it in my sleep for weeks.....
