I have always been a cheap skate and as such buy the cheapest coffee grounds available. I know, it is a sin but do be fair I can't exactly afford anything more right now.

The usual indication of cheap coffee is bitterness, which my last bag of grounds has in abundance. I just so happened to watch an old YouTube video from Vlogginlife in which he advised you add a pinch of salt to your grounds.

I took that advise with a pinch of salt (see what I did there?) but tried it anyway and guess what? It worked. My coffee this morning tastes 100% better than it did previously.

So to all of you who don't like bitterness in your coffee - add a pinch of salt.

I tried it and

it made me more thirsty then usual, but I don't recall the coffee ever tasting bitter, no I tell a lie, when it needed to be cleaned, used vinegar twice through the machine and it stopped it. Mark D.

I have a big coffee addiction

and thus I find there are places I can conserve. I buy cheaper toilet paper, I buy the less expensive napkins, I get the black and white label cereal. But Coffee, I buy the good stuff, brew it with the Bunn and enjoy several pots a day.

Napkins? I use kitchen towel - its cheaper : )

Also here's a video I found about home made fabric conditioner - it works a treat!

As an ex-barista, I recommend fresh filter coffee should never be left in a fridge - everyone does it - and it turns the coffee bitter as well as shortening its life. Ground coffee should be kept in an airtight box and left in a dark place.
