A terrific trio of 1960s Hoovers

Here are the first 3 UK Hoover model 652 series 1959 - 1967.
I did have a blue 652 from early 1970s but I really like these first 3 because they are totally colour co-ordinated. The later ones used off white handles and rubber guard. Maybe Hoover was cutting costs.
I did use artistic licence with the green one as you can see from the badge! The original red badge was cracked and I only had a spare grey badge so I sanded the grey off until the badge was see-through, then cut a roundel of green paper to put under it. I can change the colour any time!

terrific - superb - wonderful...........the list of suitable superlatives could go one and on!

My god Jonathan - they look absolutely brilliant.

I totally love them - and their condition, well, pristine.

The green paper roundel modification works a treat to and does not detract from the cleaner in any way at all (to my untrained eye anyway).

Here is a piccy of mine and Rob's 6525C Senior and 1354A Junior together - I know of a brown hood Senior too - an exclusive made for an independent retailer.
Anyone know who the brown hoods were made for? (not a test - I genuinely would love to know).

Those convertibles look like they just came out of the box. I very much like the color combinations of the helmets and the bags. Very, very, nice, indeed !! Have they been restored or just in beautiful original condition? Thanks for posting them.

........they really are. I'm feeling my 50 years as I remember the grey 652A when new......oh how I wanted one.....got a Raleigh push bike for my birthday .

Never mind I've got one now but hood on yours is much better.

Truckerx, the pink one is the most original - as far as I can remember it is all original, even the paintwork. The 2 652As I have completely stripped down, repainted and reassembled, and I polished the hoods.
Paul, love your blue ones. I used to have the 6525 at one time. My mum has a Junior Dirtsearcher but the blue headlight fitting is cracked. I think the brown hood model 6525E was made for Curry's in 1978.
Walter, I remember my mum's Model 638. They used it from 1959 to the mid-1980s! They dont make 'em like they used to!
My grey 652A is an early one - it has the metal strip above the lens and the early style furniture guard. The later grey 652As had no metal strip and the later style furniture guard, like the one on the green machine.

I remember being shown a perfect 638 25 odd years ago which was about to be SHOT BLASTED in prep for a recon (albeit a good one). It had the instructions, tools and holder complete. How I wish I had liked 638's at the time, think of what I could have saved ??

652A...Ah yes, mines the late one. I actually know where there is a pristine set of the 'DIRT' DUST & FLUFF' men, but they won't part with them !!

Paul & Rob, Love that beautiful 1354A.....those were so smart when they appeared, the first of them as you will undoubtably know had the original 1334 type '2 stage' height adjuster and a dark blue material weave bag (short production run, subsequently rare now) ....in fact I think it actually ran at the same time as the 'swedish green, junior footswitch' type of 652C for a short period , if my memory is still working properly ?

Technical Question on Foot Switches

Does anyone know why the UK (and Australia) modified the US designs and installed foot switches, rather than handle-mounted switches? This came to mind when viewing the overhead photo of these three beauties - the switches really stand out on the left of the bodies.

Im guessing it was to do with the fact the UK and Australia are 240V so it was judged safer to not have cables in the handle and also it would have been easier to comply with double insulation standards.????

I've always thought along similar lines - higher voltage concerns if the handle somehow became live, however I would have thought 110v could give you a pretty nasty jolt too.

Whatever the case, your cleaners look just fantastic!

hi guys

i have a 6525c i bought it off ebay 2years back. The guy sent me a toolset with it, but its not the one to that model, its the earlier toolset with blow converter, detachable suction converter and metal pipe-clips. Being the the older set its a lovely long hose!!
As for the dirtsearcher my mates mom used to have 1 in the mid 70s i was fascinated by it at the time, but now i prefer the 1958- 65 era juniors. im sure dirtsearcher used shorter hose with plastic bayonet coupling with new type converter with the bayonet slots and no finger-spike. i wonder did that converter take the earlier hose end as well?
